Yes, I'd b interested to know where it goes from here.
I always panic slightly when I read these sorts of stories. I have to remind myself that since I always pay my way it really shouldn't happen to me.
I saw an 'extra' 450 going through Worcester Park on Wednesday (I think) morning just before 8. I didn't see any other extra appearances, but then I was at work in Crawley for most of the day so that's not really a surprise.
Presumably because a 4 car 458 has different driving requirements to a 5 car 458 (as described previously) they need to be distinguished somehow.
Once all 458s are 5 car formations the distinction will no longer be required and they can go back to the single '458' definition because they'll all...
Yes and no. I've never seen them coupled up like that but as I live and move in SWT territory I guess I shouldn't be overly surprised that I've missed it. I was obviously making a bit too much of an assuption.
Thanks.
Thanks to both of you for the responses.
Thinking about it further, even without all of the additional issues that HarleyDavidson describes, if they had four available units I don't know if they'd actually be allowed to run four together for a 455 diagram. I've never seen more than two together...
That's certainly the way they do it on aircraft - their SATCOM systems can provide service for both cockpit and cabin (public) data streams but they're separated and managed differently and in no way does the presence of the cockpit data stream replace any of the mandatory other communications...
Somewhat off topic but I hadn't realised the tramway was still in place in Weymouth. I think I used it once as a child on the way to catch a boat and I know it survived for a good few years but I hadn't imagined there was any chance of it still being there.
On the 442 front, there is always one...
So if I can do maths, that takes 8 units on a Saturday with two more allocated for driver training making 10 units accounted for of the 15 currently in use. Are there more diagrams in the week to use up the others?
The only reason I ask is that I keep expecting 4 of them to appear on the way...
One of the comments I've seen here relating to the current Desiros on the inner-suburban routes is that slow doors are leading to longer dwell times and thus slightly late trains.
Forgive my ignorance, but is that something we're likely to see in future with these or is it a non-issue and...
I can't claim 'recent news' but I'm interested in your comment because I was chatting with some of the guys on the Mid Norfolk Railway in Dereham a couple of weeks ago. I came away from that conversation with the idea that the Norfolk Orbital plan was nothing more than a pipe dream of its...
I hand't realised their painting predated the livery scheme but this last bit did just occur to me.
Personally, I'd like to see a mix of new 7XXs and 455s on all the metro services but I confess that it's mainly because I'd like both types to run past my house on a regular basis. I guess I have...
Which begs the question (in my mind at least) as to why they changed the livery on the 'new' 458s from white to blue if they're expected to end up back where they started, at Reading.
(If loop services were once 455s, shouldn't they be run by red trains - like in the new Siemens images?)
