Can one add an auto top up to Oyster without making a train or tube journey?

I have heard of the case where you can 'touch in' a a tube station to enable the auto top up and then go and ask at the ticket window for a refund of the journey charge made at the same time but I can't say whether this is actually true or not (and to me, it seems more likely to annoy the ticket...

    Doctor Who Series 8

Oh no. No, no, no! The problem with keeping on bringing people back is that they get defeated so many times they just get belittled in the eyes of the viewer. Having the Daleks so often is bad enough but please, not Davros too.

    Doctor Who Series 8

I thought the BBC had a 'No more than once per season' contract for the use of the Daleks, or maybe that's a 'At least once per season' contract? Either way, I believe the Terry Nation's estate has been quite specific about the amount of use they can/must have.

Pictures of 455732 conversion to AC motors

I assume I'll know the difference when they start running past the back of my house in due course then?

2012 LU Project Engineeing Application Disappointment

Firstly, I haven't been here long enough to know what is approapriate for this board so if I cross any lines then I appologise. Having said that, this is my personal experience of a job application so I feel it should be OK. A couple of years ago I tried to jump ship from my Avionics...

Editing The Tube Map (contains huge image)

This looks good. It's nice to see I'm not the only one who's ever attempted this. My attempt stalled when I tried to route the old Chelsea-Hackney line route through the middle of it.

Stations Where Passengers Have to Cross the Track

As far as I know, Eastfields has a footbridge over the tracks. You still have to cross the road to get between platforms, however. (I suppose you could walk across the level crossing and cross the road and tracks between the platforms in one go instead of crossing the road and using the bridge...

    Rail Map.....All lines!!!

Wow, I like the detail of this. It seems to already contain all the little details of the local area I've learned about over the years. Good job!

    new class 450 diagrams??

I guess it's nice to be getting some use out of all that work even if we won't get actual 10 car trains any time soon. Out of interest, at those platforms marked for different car lengths, where do the 450s stop now? Have they moved the 8-car markers to allow for 450s as well as 455s now that...

    Questions about driving trains.

My first real job involved installing airport RADAR systems and I always remember when working in the control tower at Frankfurt the local engineering manager being at great pains to make sure we understood to leave the door wedged open. Apparently, if we tripped the halon system, chances were...

Thank you oh knowledgable ones! I can see I'm going to learn a lot through my membership here.

    new class 450 diagrams??

Ah, OK. Thanks. All I see is 455s all day and I'm not well enough acquainted with the different uses of 450s to have even guessed at that. I hadn't actually considered anything going beyond Guildford!

    new class 450 diagrams??

Ah yes, the refurb struck me as a possible reason this morning. The most stunning sighting was of a 12 car 450 combination going past towards Epsom a few weeks ago. I don't believe it was scheduled to pass but on that day there was a signal failure at Waterloo and a lightning strike near...

    West Croydon station

Platform 2 was always the termination point of our regular shopping runs from Merton Park to Croydon as kids, in fact I think it's probably the only platform I've ever used there. I have very fond memories of that libe for some reason, Tramlink just isn't the same.

    new class 450 diagrams??

OK, thanks. That doesn't quite fit what I thought I saw on Friday but generally it's close enough that my timings must have been off (I was insulating the loft at the time so wasn't wholly concentrating on what was passing). I'm assuming that without the platform extensions at places like...

    Tramlink to Sutton

Interesting. This appears to be just the two boroughs consulting rather than having any TfL involvement so presumably it's a tool for lobbying purposes rather than carrying any real promise. I'm not holding my breath to see a result. Geographically, I don't see an option but to take the...

    new class 450 diagrams??

As my house backs onto the line between Worcester Park and Stoneleigh, I'm seeing these three times a day at the moment (when I'm not working on a week day). I haven't checked the timetable for all appearances but these correspond roughly to: 11:24 to Dorking (and return - approx 12:55) 15:24...
