TFW 197 Training Runs this Coming Week?

Saw 197 001 at Chester and Llandudno Junction earlier, think it was running as these: https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:K02239/2021-10-04/detailed https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:K02240/2021-10-04/detailed

Retro Railtours Cumbrian Coaster II 28/8/21

I think Leander has been in black since it's last overhaul, it was off to Bishop's Lydeard to work an RTC tour tomorrow. The loco that failed was 46115 according to reports elsewhere.

British heritage lines which are returning to normal, post Covid-19 restrictions.

Lakeside & Haverthwaite also back to normal and quite busy, we had no problems getting and keeping socially distanced seats (in a compartment) on a six coach train.

    Live signalling diagrams

The human brain is easily misled at times (even more so with computers and auto-correct)! I actually didn't realise that you wrote Halesowen and probably read it as Halewood as Warrington and Fiddler's Ferry had already been mentioned

    Live signalling diagrams

I've not checked, but doubt whether that line is on Traksy or any similar site as they only work in areas under centralised signalling control with train describers. The line from Warrington Arpley to Ditton Junction is still mostly controlled by individual small signal boxes which don't have...

British heritage lines which are returning to normal, post Covid-19 restrictions.

Yes it is. Turned up at Quorn last Tuesday, purchased a ticket and happily rode around for the rest of the day (choice of DMU and steam-hauled set). Had no problems with getting a bay of four / compartment to ourselves (2 people) but the trains weren't busy enough for the issue of sharing to...

BLS - The Summer Syphons 4 Days Railtours - Friday 2nd to Mon 5th July 2021

Train was actually booked into Blea Moor loop (as you would expect with the Branch Line Society ). Once we'd gone in there, it was wasn't a surprise when the delayed service trains went first.

BLS - The Summer Syphons 4 Days Railtours - Friday 2nd to Mon 5th July 2021

The 66s had been on the train since Edinburgh and were booked to remain attached all day (just as well in the circumstances!)

    2021 New haulages

Thanks, no. 2 "Zillertal" added to my meagre 2021 total today (suppose it saves trying to catch it on the Zillertalbahn when it goes home!)

    2021 New haulages

Is the correct answer :D Anyway so far this year: 2999 (or 4942 if you prefer, steam) 68030 68029 (68s completed <:D) 1340 (steam) 20110  Hunslet 1873 "Jessie" (steam) D2069 5485 (steam, ex Poland) Will struggle to get many more "winners" until foreign travel is back on the agenda.

    Steam or Diesel Train Tour?

Right now I'd be happy to be able to go on any railtour!!!! Back to the question, I don't mind either but am very picky regarding traction of both types (and electric) and avoid some things like the plague. Route and destination also come into consideration, I usually look at the whole thing...

Duke & Duchess of Cambridge 3 day rail tour

It's been 1Z** for well over 30 years. When I first had dealings with it in the late 1980s it apparently ran as 1Z01 with the Queen on board, with the numbers increasing as the seniority of who was being carrying decreased but it has been running with a random 1Z** number for a few years now.

Duke & Duchess of Cambridge 3 day rail tour

It does indeed, even down to which lines it uses (I once had to send it in Slow Line at Watford South and back out Fast Line at Watford North due to a points failure, nearly caused a meltdown in Control!)

    A career as a signaller

Had a scenario on the simulator on one occasion when the emergency alarm was received, I put the signal back but the "train" continued merrily on its way (it was meant to stop!). After a couple of further attempts with the same outcome, we ended up turning the simulator off and doing it the...

When did you first have a mobile phone?

Can't remember the exact type but I got my first mobile from Orange in 1996, think the plan had all of 30 minutes talk time! Some time before that I knew a train driver who was an early adopter of a mobile phone. On one occasion he worked a train down to Westbury overnight and had to "pass"...

Preserved Railways reopening with Diesel traction

Just been to Chinnor and they are running top and tail with GWR pannier tank 6412 on the Chinnor end and class 08 diesel D3018 on the Princes Risborough end.

Preserved Railways reopening with Diesel traction

Booked to do this on Monday and didn't realise! I'll report back unless someone beats me to it.

    A career as a signaller

As far as portacabins go, Upper Holloway wasn't that bad; at least it had insulation which made it more pleasant to be in than the similar box at Gospel Oak (now gone). When I worked it 30+ years ago, it had a small panel but not sure that is still the case with all the changes that have taken...
