Lancashire Bus Tenders - March 2025

Andyh82 said: Is there anywhere in Preston or Chorley where printed bus timetables can be picked up I believe they are kept behind the counter in the bus stations, but the one in Preston is only manned something stupid like one hour a day on weekdays only and the one in Chorley isn’t...

Penmanshiel Tunnel collapse (17th March 1979)

What about sleeper trains? We were doing an all-line all-line rover, or possibly an Eastern one (regional ones were available on those days). From my memory, although it is a long time ago, I recall being told we were the first passenger train through after the works had been completed. I cannot...

Ranger ticket from unstaffed station query.

Why not buy in advance if that is possible? Buckshaw Parkway is quite close (a good walk for the exercise). If you (or someone you know) are passing through/visiting Leyland or Chorley a day or so in advance, just pop into the ticket office.

It was Michael Grove Contains a video clip - Gove: Britons "Have Had Enough of Experts" "When senior British politician Michael Gove announced in 2016 that the public had “had enough of experts” in the lead up to the Brexit vote, it highlighted a growing trend for questioning the authority...

GM Wayfarer ticket - Extension to Sheffield from Grindleford

Thanks everyone. We will be using the GM Wayfarer ticket during the day for a bit of walking along the Hope Valley, then going into Sheffield to meet up with her sister later on in Sheffield as it is her birthday. When we did this last time on a Northern day ticket, we had almost an hour to wait...

Could someone confirm if I have a GM Wayfarer ticket and a day return, Grindleford to Sheffield, I could use the express services between Manchester and Sheffield, or am I restricted to the stopping service?

    Storm Eowyn Disruption - 24/1/25

Whilst there are no trains north of Preston tomorrow, the station can suffer wind damage, with sometimes all, or part of the station closed to passengers. Lets hope it will be OK tomorrow.

Avanti Standard Premium prices gone up

Totally agree, I have stopped using Avanti for this very reason, First Class & Standard Premium are so much more expensive than Standard between Preston and Scotland. These trains, other than the peak traveling times, tend to be lightly loaded north of Preston. I often went 1st Advance, don't do...

Thanks for the information, I have just booked our tickets on the Forum ticket site. Peterborough d 15.18 York a 16.32 York d 17.23 Preston a 19.39 So plenty of time to get something to eat & drink if required, plus I presume access to the 1st class lounge? Advanced singles 1st class...

Peterborough to Preston journey: what food would be available between Peterborough and York?

We are planning to travel from Peterborough to Preston, on Tuesday 14th January. Looking at the First Class menu options, the 14.30 from Kings Cross (Peterborough 15.18) offers Dine, rather then Deli or Dish. Would a Dish option be offered between Peterborough and York (16.32)?

Lancashire Bus Tenders - March 2025

There is a short article in Tuesday's Lancashire Evening Post covering the success of Vision Bus of winning some of these contracts.

Lancashire Bus Tenders - March 2025

As I recall, the old 110 route was Leyland (Fishwicks Garage, then Queens hotel) to Croston. Shared Ribble & Fishwick's I think. I also remember it coming into Leyland from Lostock Hall, possibly from Preston (perhaps via Todd Lane). I can remember this as it picked up visitors (2-2.30pm) who...

Should we get rid of/automate National Rail Enquiries?

Has anyone ever had an answer to their call resolved satisfactorily? I know I haven't. So I never use them anymore.

Planning Rules Have Failed To link New Homes To Public Transport - study finds.

Exactly this. Just look at bus shelters that offer no protection from prevailing wind & rain. But they look nice!

Will Labour scrap the £2 fare Cap? (now confirmed will rise to £3)

Agreed, or say the 5p cut is being restored, something like 2p this year, 2p next year and 1p the following year. But I guess they feared backlash from the motoring lobby.

Will Body Cams become something that nearly everyone wears ?.

How useful that would be........ Where did I put my keys? What did I do with my wallet? Yes, you agreed to move the fridge on Friday. You put that £20 note on the table before you left.

Will Labour scrap the £2 fare Cap? (now confirmed will rise to £3)

I agree, I read this thread as I wish to hear any news regarding the £2 bus fare, but this thread does seem to be attracting lots of other non relevant topics. Please be aware of the subject thread when posting on this thread. Thanks all.

Northern Rail - Manchester Airport Advance Ticket - What Happens if Flight Delay

Hello, I know I have read somewhere there is some allowance given if your flight is delayed. But I cannot find any reference to this on the Northern website. I am wondering if this is a TPE thing, not Northern. Does anyone know? Flight arrives Manchester Airport 12.10.

    Chess advice required

Some books can be very basic, some too technical. Books by Richard James are very good. Look for books with plenty of pictures, rather tan too much text and analysis. Also look for puzzle books, such as check mate in one move. Try a local chess club. I know you said you prefer not to use...

    International connections at Zürich HB

It's not too expensive at COOP City. Top floor, 4th. Good choice of food and serves to about 7.30. Perhaps a bit like M&S but with more choice and a much larger eating area.
