    As an aside, the Penistone is a delightful line to travel on, fabulous views and excellent station pubs at both Huddersfield (2 bars) and Sheffield. Well worth a trip on it if you’ve never been on it!

    Delay repay - train too full to board

    There is no way I would risk getting a train to a UK Airport when catching a flight unless I went the night before. Far too many things could potentially go wrong unfortunately.

    Remember this is a purely a passenger railway ‘commercial’ ( much like what National Express or Flixbus would do) speculative suggestion, its not intended to take into account putting pressure on alternative modes of transport or leaving communities without alternative public transport options…

    Remember, I am not advocating closing any, it’s a speculative thread, so political pressures/opinions are irrelevant, perhaps freight requirements could be ignored too…? A handful of two car full and standing trains when the sun comes out is hardly an economic case to keep some lines open…?

    Bit of a messy title and not one I advocate doing but…. Would it be possible to close 10% of GB passenger lines and only lose 1% of the overall passengers carried across the country? Which lines could be closed that wouldn’t dent overall patronage that much would result in significant savings...

    Bank holiday Saturday weekend and a minibus (solo?) allocated to the 6.1 Derby to Bakewell route, full and standing leaving Duffield towards Bakewell just before 1100 this morning, presumably passengers will be left behind en-route to Bakewell…?
