    HS1 Closed - Eurostar

no reason why not. I believe an ice 3 unit was shown off in st Pancras having been towed in.

    HS1 Closed - Eurostar

You mean dragged along hs1 ? I don’t think 373s can be accommodated anymore at Waterloo ?

Exceeding maximum line speed on LNER

I had a cab ride the other day - I think the overhead line equipment needs substantial upgrading if 140 mph were to be permitted. But I’d try to find a way to increase existing line speeds such as Stilton Fen and Newark and Doncaster - both of which are 100 mph. Imagine if some sort of...

    New additional TPE rolling stock

I personally think they should go with a single fleet of 802s. That way everyone can get trained up on one traction type as was the case with 185s when introduced. I think the 68s and mkV should be offloaded to maybe a new open access operator and no more should be built as they aren’t really...

Eurotunnel - Trainee Train Drivers - Folkestone (10/11/22)

Salary is disgustingly low - barely higher than a bus driver. Considering you’ll be operating the heaviest and most powerful train in the UK at speeds up to 87 mph.

Bus management roles - CPC ?

Does anyone know if a transport manager CPC (certificate of professional competence) is required to apply for managerial roles within the bus/coach industry? If so how long / hard is the course? Is it more difficult than the train driver course?

Where can Electrostars/Desiros actually reach 100mph

I think it’s very much a waste to have a diesel powered unit on the WCML going to Glasgow / Edinburgh as its electrified in its entirety. 185s still get plenty of 100 mph cruising between church Fenton and Thirsk where they are switched to slow lines as they call there. They are as quick as an...

Where can Electrostars/Desiros actually reach 100mph

All third rail powered EMUs are heavily restricted as to their maximum current draw when in multiple. The longer the formation the slower the train. This does not apply so much on AC overhead lines where this software restriction isn’t in place. Desiro DC third rail are particularly hampered...

    Possible TPE fleet reductions?

If a third platform at Middlesbrough was built I think terminating services there would be a real cost saving. As for the Huddersfield stopping services - 185s were never designed for this kind of work - so I think adding a few minutes to stopping trains and allowing them to be overtaken at...

Train drivers offered pay rise in bid to end strikes

PCV licence holders are plentiful - so part time positions etc are necessary to attract those people.

    Javelins and the like

There should be some improvements notably along the Canterbury West branch which has line speed improvements to increase the maximum to 80 mph. Hopefully this will also happen on the section beyond to Ramsgate.

    Javelins and the like

Does anyone know the name of the French EMU that is equipped to run on LGV lines at its maximum speed of 200 km/h?

    Javelins and the like

You could say that for any increase - which historically has been in increments like that. 90-100-110-125 ?

    Javelins and the like

They only get looped if running ECS or they may get held at Ebbsfleet / Stratford station to let a Eurostar through. 140 mph running is still the norm - not 125 mph as when the service started.

The impact of the rail network woes on the coach sector

Why are coach drivers seemingly unaffected by strike action compared to trains and buses ?

    Bus Drivers' Rough Driving

Google maps on android will display the speed and speed limit as will a lot of phone gps apps. Is excessive speeding (more than 5 mph over the limit ) quite rare nowadays though ?

    Closing down the Railways?

We need to get more dangerous and polluting lorries off the road. Railways will enable that.

    Weekends and part-time railway jobs

The psychometric tests and medicals and year long course are a significant cost to companies. Maybe these could be done away with for part time drivers - and just let them do a few front end turns before letting them have a few goes?
