    "Tram buses"

Much of London is subject to a 20 mph speed limit. I suspect these vehicles will rarely exceed that ?

    Current Limit Index

I wonder if the current limit is a little lower than 4500A - 4000A might be about right. I vaguely recall the performance of 3*3 car sets coupled together and it wasn’t great. Probably similar to 2*4 cars. But certain odd formations did perform well. 4+3 cars would be seriously quicker than a...

Should Merseyrail move to Driverless Trains of some description

I think automation should only be on very short routes that would benefit from a quick turnaround. Stourbridge shuttle. Grove park to Bromley North. Romford to Upminster.

    Train drivers overpaid?

Can anyone think of a decent come back for me to say to my coach driver colleague (an ex teacher) who thinks I get £50k for striking and pushing some buttons ?

RIP Great western 125mph.... (IETs to have speed limiter automatically set)

Wikipedia has altered the maximum for class 80x to 124 mph meaning they can no longer officially attain the maximum line speed of 125 mph on the UK. The general sustained cruising speed seems to be 123 mph - slower than older stock that preceded it.

Do you notice how a bus is driven?

I believe I got scored badly on a driving assessment because the instructor thought I had an attitude problem.

Do new trains give too much power?

I think all modern trains should have an adjustable speed limiter (which stadler units have) but many such as 195s and 331s don’t which would help give a smoother ride at line speeds across the whole speed range. Does anyone know if 80x have had their acceleration rates so they don’t cause...

Why the bus industry is struggling to recruit drivers

Many have left to do better paid HGV work - some even investing in the licence required. HGV and coaches seem to welcome casual / ad-hoc drivers whereas service bus work does not appear to.

Future of SWR's class 158/159 fleet

I recall when introduced 159s were the fastest accelerating stock on south western trains. The 4REPS having gone with their motors being used to power the 442s.

Between North downs tunnel and Lenham loops. Probably about 5 mins worth.

RPI vs Guard / TM - Who has more “power”?

Why is it that an RPI on the buses has authority over the bus driver but on the trains has no authority over the conductor / TM never mind the train driver ?

Telling people you're a train driver

Eventually when making new friends (on holiday for example) the ‘what do you do for a living ?’ question comes up. When you tell them your a train driver in (x) part of the country you can see their eyes glaze over or a comment about strikes or ‘I thought you was a doctor’. From there on the...
