    Platform Ticket

Does such a thing as a "platform ticket" still exist? My wife is going to do the Sailrail to Dublin, along with our three children, and I want to see her safely on to the train in Euston. Do I need to buy a platform ticket to do this, as I need to pass the ticket check but will not be...

First Great Western Groupsave on Rugby Days

Thanks to this forum, I have read about FGW's Groupsave and how it is not valid on high demand dates, such as rugby internationals. I am going to go to the Heineken Cup Final on 24th May in Cardiff. I can see that the tickets are for sale for that date and a Groupsave ticket can be bought...

    East Coast emergency stop video

If, as the rail industry has taught me, being on a train beyond the validity of my ticket is worthy of a day in court and a criminal record, then I'd consider my inability to alight as an emergency.

    Trains on Google Street View

I read before that google had streetviewed the NIR Dublin line from Belfast down to the border. Never saw any evidence of it though.

passengers who stand when there are seats available

As an able-bodied adult male, I see myself as least deserving of a seat. If I think all seats will be later occupied, I'll stand to save myself from giving up my seat later.

Translink Antrim-Crumlin-Lisburn line in use 15.09.2013

International??? When I was a student up in Coleraine, the two hour journey seemed to drag. And looking at the map, it was the most indirect service I could imagine. I'd love to do it again for old times' sake. On a Class 80.

BBC Article on overcrowding- '100,000 passengers a day stand into London'

I take a FCC from Tulse to Elephant every day. I never get a seat but it's ok. It's my choice. I could go to London Bridge, get a seat, pay double for my season ticket and spend an extra ten minutes in each direction. When I used to live in Ireland, I would take a train each day from Donabate...

"Continental Railways Are Better Than Ours"

It's nigh on impossible to compare the whole of the continent's railway to ours. We are an isolated system whereas each country on 'the continent' has its own strengths and weaknesses. What happens in Stockholm has no impact on rail operations in Barcelona. To state that continental...

    FCC : Another 'worse' Title

I saw a guy in a decent suit, not exactly sharp, at a revenue protection exercise at Elephant during the week. Maybe it's something new they are doing. A bit of professionalism is always welcome. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Sorry John, I replied to your post based on the...

    FCC : Another 'worse' Title

I am a TL commuter within London and I find the service fine but I do have options if things go wrong. The service is at such a high frequency that if something goes slightly wrong, the whole system starts to snarl up. There are trains every 10 - 15 minutes. If a train is five minutes late...

    Scotrail Bans Electronic Cigarettes.

Obviously there would be no means of detecting people using these in lavatories or sleeper rooms.

BTP appeal after passenger jumps off train Leicester

All the time in London you see idiots on the bus who open the rear doors with the Emergency Exit button. They think they should be entitled to get off wherever they fancy, who cares about anyone else!

What has closed London Bridge station? (Friday 24 May)

My problem with that is that it is just unfair to those who are decent and law abiding and who just happen to be young and black. It's pragmatic of the police to target them based on appearance and it may get results but I think I'd prefer to live in a society where everyone is allowed to...

What has closed London Bridge station? (Friday 24 May)

I think they've got a certain type of person that they're looking for. The blade in itself isn't enough. At E&C last night they told me not to bother going through the scanner. I am a 36 year old male in a M&S suit. Interestingly, I am from Belfast so when I was 20, I would have been exactly...

What has closed London Bridge station? (Friday 24 May)

A friend was on a train and said that a lunatic was reportedly on the train, waving a hatchet. They searched the train, couldn't find him so shut the station. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Elephant & Castle station has the Met with an airport style scanner on the way in to the...

    Vandalism

Scratching windows 'scratchiti'. That really annoys me. There is absolutely no aesthetic value to it at all, it ruins the effectiveness of the windows, can be seen inside and out. Hanging is too good for the culprits.
