Well if TFW have said on Twitter that trains are running as usual then that’s good enough for me :) I thought it looked a bit silly, guess common sense > NRE’s algorithms - not a good look for the railway if its main ‘shop window’ is giving out bogus or incomplete information though :( Thank you.
So you think the trains will be running to time, they just haven’t told NRE (or even TFW’s own journey planner) yet, so it thinks there are no trains from South Wales. It also means that the cheapest return ticket is given as £40.55 even though it should be £23.75 via Crewe - will Newtown still...
Ok, it gets stranger - it looks like all the return services (Manchester-Shrewsbury) are running hourly at xx:31 as they should be (except the 14:31 which isn’t listed for some reason), giving the expected 1-change journey, however the outward route is still as it was last night.
As a train...
I did notice that there’s engineering work between Swansea & Port Talbot but I didn’t expect that that would stop the entire Shrewsbury-Manchester fast service - I thought they’d start those from somewhere east of Port Talbot instead of the usual Carmarthen.
Hello again, I’m very confused by something I’ve found using NRE tonight. I want to go from Newtown (Powys) to Manchester Piccadilly this Saturday (23 March), & know that the route you’d normally use is Newtown-Shrewsbury-Manchester with one change. Why is NRE giving me a much longer & more...
I once had to run the length of Trowbridge town centre having boarded the right bus going the wrong way. I wanted the 265 to Bath but got the 265 to Salisbury. I just about made the Bath one in the end but I make sure to check the destination as well as the number now
Ah thank you. Thought it looked like a 70 but obviously it was passing at speed & my train was moving too. Something to do with the Mainline work I guess. Thanks again :)
Yesterday evening at about 17:20, I was on a diverted London-Brighton train that had just passed West Worthing. As I was getting ready to get off at Worthing, my home station, a freight train passed us, heading west on the Portsmouth-bound track. It was hauled by a Colas Rail, couldn’t tell the...
About Crossrail, I wonder if Thameslink would be better taken over by TfL & truncated to within-zones & inner he counties only? Restoring the outer services to the termini - if the core's gonna be a tube line, have it run by people who know how to run a tube :p
Are they going to end up having to go back to the old timetable while they train enough drivers to run the new one - & then introduce the new one properly in December or even next May? Or is the new timetable itself fatally flawed from the start - can it ever work?
So in other words too many trains, not enough lines or drivers - does that nean the timetable is more than merely a flawed introduction - can it ever work? Or is reversal & abandonment the only way out?
How feasible would it be to remove the Thameslink services from the GN stretch & go back to pre-May 20 GN service, even if temporarily? I take it 700s can run into King's Cross.
Are GTR untouchable because their real raison d'être as given by DfT was not to run a usable train service, but solely to break the RMT at all costs? Sure seems like it when you look at their track record - any other TOC would've been kicked out years ago on the Connex precedent.
I can see this timetable getting junked again temporarily if this keeps on happening in too many weekday peaks. Do GTR know how many drivers they've got?!
Hello :) I may be going to Reading tomorrow & I vaguely remember you talking about a very good pie shop (Sweeney Todds) in the town. I know its physical location but I'd like to have an idea of how long it takes to walk from there to the station - & if I can expect the pie to stay hot enough to...
