    BR Blue in the 1960s

I'm just curious (this is in part going to help with my railway modelling, but it's not only about that, hence why I'm starting the thread here) as to what extent BR Blue could be seen in the 1960s? I understand it began in 1966, but would Class 37s, for instance, have been seen much in blue...

    Ronnie Biggs is dead.

I think it's fair to remember him as a character, but to abstain from eulogising him. I think there are worse than him, but he was never a shining example of humanity. The robbery was just so fantastic (I use the word in its original meaning) that it has become ingrained, and transformed into...

    rail regrets

Being born in '92, I remember the arse end of British Rail; Sectorisation liveries, as such, have left a huge imprint on me. Those memories are almost tangible. I can still smell it, hear it, feel it. The entire atmosphere was different. As such, I wish I'd taken more notice of those liveries...

What's your favourite TOC and why?

Indeed - it's not often seen in our world of mundane drudgery and professional jobsworthiness. It was a moment of genuine sympathy, empathy, and kindness, and it's something I've never forgotten, and never will. XC have never been short of excellent in my experience. Their customer service is...

    Brockenhurst station footbridge

How sad. :( I've detailed my only visit to this station elsewhere, but I was very impressed with it. Nice blend of the old and the new. I'm all for the benefits the new structure will bring, but it's still sad to see such an elderly piece of railway infrastructure given its final curtain call.

What's your favourite TOC and why?

I have several, for various reasons - some more trivial than others: East Midlands Trains wins me over for their VP185-powered HSTs which provide me with some excellent bashing opportunities when I'm bored. Their 158s can be painfully overcrowded on the Liverpool-Norwich services, though...

Cancelling services short of the destination

A couple of Saturdays ago, my friend caught the Northern service back to Barnsley from Sheffield having visited me for the day - bog standard express service with a 158. On arriving at Meadowhall, the woman sat next to her noted that the departure boards announced that the train would be routed...

Great British Railway Journeys BBC2 (Starts 6th January 2014)

Haven't some of these locations already been visited? I'm sure he's done the Calder Valley before. Indeed, I remember watching the episode where he alighted at Castleton and feeling pleasantly surprised, as it's my ancestral seat (I'm trying to sound posh; I've moved out to study in Sheffield)...

    Hallam Line Gradients

Wouldn't be willing to scan it in for me would you? I'd understand if not.

    Hallam Line Gradients

1 in 102 until half a mile before Darton, climbs at 106 through Darton until between Crigglestone and Flockton?

    Hallam Line Gradients

Brilliant! :D So do you mean that from Barnsley to Darton it was 1 in 102? And is that down to Darton or up? I'm not local but it's a line I travel to my girlfriend's.

    Hallam Line Gradients

Looked all over for these and can't find them, and don't have a copy of BR Main Line Gradients readily available. Particularly looking for Leeds-Barnsley. Can anyone help?

    Past Northern Rail Diagrams?

I am looking to find out which Class 158 was on the 09:05 off Leeds going towards Nottingham on March 31st of this year - does anybody have this information or a website where I can discover it? Thanks in advance!
