No rail company can ban e-cigarettes as it doesn't contravene the railway byelaws. They tried banning them and realised legally they cannot. All TM's are told to ask customers to stop using them though if they're seen using them.

Funny the first...
Hull Trains are one unit down due to an electrical control failure on one of the sets.
Two sets are at Old Oak Common undergoing maintenance / repairs.
I travel to work on Saturdays and Sundays on HS1 when going into work on nightshift and Sundays are always far busier for my particular journey.
But that could just be for that route / time.
I was once on a train and noticed a couple of young kids in the cess attempting to throw stones at the train i was on. They were pretty useless shots but i called the BTP anyway, mainly for the kids safety more than anything.
The sleeper stock has always been allocated to Long Rock. It's only the locos that are allocated to OOC.
Sorry, not always allocated but is currently allocated to Long Rock.
The main issue when trains have a fire is that it is quite often the wiring that burns up or even if wiring isn't the cause of the fire, it often gets damaged as a result. Replacing wiring looms is a very time consuming process so this one could be out of service for quite some time even if it...
Correct, the call for aid alarms in the toilets do not activate the brakes.
The passcom will put the brakes in, which you quite rightly said the driver can overide. This overide is on a 3 minute timer so after 3 minutes the brakes will come back in if the passcom hasn't been reset, although...
At the moment ours are only de-rating with high coolant temp but shutting down with high hydro oil. But doesn't sound like we're having problems as bad as you. The screens are fairly dirty but it's the leaves between the rads that have built up over time that have caused us problems.
Wow! That's pretty serious. Ours aren't quite so bad but the problem we have is that the leaves have found there way between the fuel / oil panels and the charge air panels and the only way they can be removed is to take the panels out.
They've obviously been there since autumn but didn't...
The class 180's have also had a bad week with overheating.
Do the 175's still have the triple matrix on one side of the cooler group (oil, fuel and charge air)?
I think Network Rail might disagree about a unit not needing rescuing if it failed in a platform at Kings X. :)
All I'm trying to say is that a unit being non-multiple both ends will limit the options for rescuing but there are still options available and I'd rather send a unit out...
Cross feed is the transfer of power between vehicles. Please do go on with whatever you're talking about.
The assumption that it would be an electrical fault is fairly valid. In 11 years of servicing, repairing and overhauling DMU's, not once have I known a coupler be locked out of use for a...
It shouldn't really be an issue.
I'm guessing the theory is in case it fails but in most cases the fault will be in the coupler electrical head and relating to a train wire. This may affect door interlock, cross feed, brake continuity or just about anything that runs between the couplers. It...
