Plus it's not ideal to pull the access handle and put the emergency brake in, then pull the egress handle so the doors don't close while you reset the access handle. Driver's tend to get a little upset.
Cheers for the reply. I'm not sure how EMU's work but on an HST each vehicle has it's own WSP rack so i thought it'd be unlikely for all vehicles to slide. When the wheels lock the WSP should release it momentarily which would then register a speed and apply the brakes again.

The problem with the 180 H-brake was that the flexible hoses that take the oil to the heat exchanger couldn't handle thhe immense pressure under braking. Even for the short time the pipes would hold out, in the warmer months the heat from the transmission oil under braking would heat the coolant...
That was how i understood it. Axle failure on passenger vehicles is a very rare occurence due to the overhaul procedures they undergo, axle design and regular UAT carried out.
Allegedly the output bearing in the final drive got so hot it melted into the axle and the axle snapped. The wheel was meant to have been sitting at a 30 degree angle.
Any news on what happened? I've heard that the London end cab of the failed unit and the following vehicle came into Ashford coupled up to another unit. So did it become detached in traffic?
Hull trains operate 104, 109, 110, 111 and i think 113 has just been agreed.
102 is at Old Oak Common as a training unit
Crofton didn't do a good job of maintaining them, hence the maintenance contract being awarded to FGW at OOC as of 1st April.
