UP 2115 1A40 Night Riviera Service Tonight

Bit late i know but it should have been 57602. 57603 was the down engine. 57605 was taken by road to Laira to have a wheelset change and 57604 is on jacks at O.O.C for bogie overhaul work.

    180104

56904 was running vice 56910 in 180110 due to a wiring burn up on 56910. The first time a vehicle has been swapped between units i believe. 56910 is now back in 180110 and 56904 is back in 180104 at Old Oak Common. Rumour has it that when 180104 leaves OOC it will be by road because it...

Where should the 5 180s with Northern/East Coast go?

I heard from a very reliable source at Old Oak Common that in the near future they will be looking after 9 class 180's. There will be 4 allocated for Hull Trains and FGW will use the rest. I 'think' Grand Central will have the remaining 5 but not certain on that.

Where should the 5 180s with Northern/East Coast go?

The 5 180's will be going to FGW.

    Possible FGW class 57 replacement

    Ongoing traction motor problems? Really?

Where should the 5 180s with Northern/East Coast go?

They have an emergency coupler to allow it to be rescued by a 57 or 08

FHT 180 at Old Oak Common

As part of the standard overhaul programme. It is FGW staff who do all of the maintenance on them at OOC. I have also heard from a very reliable source that one of the vehicles from the 'abandoned' East Coast 180 @OOC has been put into 180110 because there was a problem with one of it's...

What's the sound that makes HST's sound like EMUs?

It certainly does have a toilet extractor fan. But no, probably doesn't make it sound like an EMU

    Gc - 180112

Fair enough. It was a genuine question. I've worked on 180 maintenance on and off for the past 7 years and even though there were a couple that were worse than others we didn't have access to any firm data nor did we know how it was measured. I would imagine miles per casualty but that was not...

    Gc - 180112

Is there any actual proven information available to say that 180112 is the worst performing 180? I've heard it said a couple of times but didn't know where the data came from and how it was determined.

Why do 175's not use hydrodynamic braking now?

The 180's were isolated as they had problems with the braided hose that runs from the transmission to the heat exchanger bursting under the immense pressure under braking with the H-brake. It seemed that they managed to mod the pipe but then they were having problems with the transmission oil...

    Diesel Loco engineers/fitters

 You're quite right, it's 17500 hours, not 175000 as originally written.

    Diesel Loco engineers/fitters

On the DMU''s i have worked on they are done on the A exam cycle which is 20000 miles regardless. On MTU'd Class 43 power cars i believe they are done on engine hours exam cycle. I believe that is 1000 hours but not certain. Oil samples are generally only sent to Scientifics if there is reason...

Class 180 at Old Oak Common

There isn't any major fault with it, it'll take a little bit of work to get fit for service again but nothing too bad. I don't know exactly when it was last in service but it went to OOC with the intention of being used by HT but that didn't happen and it is just sitting there now because nobody...

Class 180 at Old Oak Common

Was it definately 104? 104 has not moved from the blocks on 1 road for months and i'm pretty certain you can't see that from the mainline or the road (unless you've got high powered binoculars) 180110 was there on Friday for maintenance.

Class 180 at Old Oak Common

180104 has been stabled there for a good few months now but that wouldn't have been the one you'd seen as it's on 1 road blocks and you can't see it in the carriage shed. It would have been one of the HT units there on maintenance
