Advice please for dull day photos

Low light means a tripod and longer shutter times Im affraid to say. Select manual and give it 1/2 >1 F stop more exposure. But the shutter time now becomes too long to hold it by hand, try it by all means but you will see the slightest soft image if you move !! Otherwise not that bad a...

Hitachi Super Express - Technical Data

The max power looks a bit mean........4 MW ?? Not quite up to Eurostar / TGV spec is it?? It will be slow off the mark and have a mediocre top speed. Contrast is the JR500's, these are doing some 50Km/hr as the last car leaves the platform!:-x

Yes I do believe the French build motorways and the Millau viaduct, etc etc. The French government is always supportive of its industries, unlike ours. My point is that a British company could not buy a French industry with an objective of shutting down after a few years! They (the government)...

    Vibrating Pendo

My sentiments exactly. I have worked in Japan and they are so involved in all they do and produce. To make something shoddy and badly is not in their nature. They take it personally and see it as a reflection upon themselves if anything fails or is faulty or shoddy. Lets just hope that the...

The reason why we have fallen behind '' a bit'' I put down to UK companies being bought out by bigger foreign companies, they are then closing us down after a few years and hay-presto.....the UK competition has gone!! So the bigger companies get bigger at our expense. Just wish we had some...

Its a technological statement of intent by a very successful and progressive country! We were once like that....80 years ago....but we appear to have fallen slightly behind. Yes the green thing does look odd but it probably wont get off the drawing board looking like that. This is the way...

    New Canon Video Camera....comments?

I am planning on a new video machine, the model will be a Canon HFS-100 due out April 09. I have noticed the retailers selling off the older spec machines (Canon HF-100) in anticipation for the new model. It is a HD flash card machine and I would welcome any comments from those of you with...

    Tees Yard developments

This is not exactly Tinsley Yard or Teeside and it most definitely not railway land re-development....its worse! This is prime green-belt land that is also good quality farmland and a very fine natural habitat! Its too good to lose for ever...

Where to go in Yorkshire and the Midlands these days

SYJR Maltby......nice and devoid of nutters...not nice to please the eye.....nice you get out of the village/town. Still its fairly unique in my experience, semaphore signals, Maltby pit yard is still full of atmospheric shots if you look hard enough. Go to the old Firbeck Junction while you...

    Competition 305 :: Voting

I like the make-up of No. 14 with the swans in the foreground and then your eye drawn to the box. However No. 1 hits the spot with the landscape taking dominance over the subject. It is taken straight out of the Gifford old-school book of railway photography in the landscape.

Where to go in Yorkshire and the Midlands these days

If you are up at Boothies Rotherham, then a trip to Maltby for the SYJR is within reach. Not much except coal passes through but its always nice and devoid of nutters. Park near signal box and get some good landscape shots across the valley. About 10 trains between 9am and 2pm on a good day with...

Oz and James....Best Job on TV

Dont know how many readers watch Oz & James on TV with the program loosely based around British Beer. But James role has to be one of the BEST jobs in the UK at present...bar none!! I mean, he gets paid to drive around in a Rolls drinking beer and generally sampling ales in Dewsbury...
