    Blackpool - Manchester Electrification

Seems like they've forgotten Bolton - or it's going to be the last piece in the puzzle :frown:

On my travels around various parts of the country in the name of work, last time was near Bradford - I have seen some structures under pylon cables that look like Faraday type cages - essentially wire cages underneath the power lines - I don't know if that's what they are, but can't think of...

Visiting parents at Poulton today, they have received a letter from NR stating stretch between PRE and BPN will be energised from 14 April. Took a picture of said letter, will send onto Dave, don't know if the upload thing on my phone will work. Edit: Dad said he was walking along the path...

The driver's view: 'The memory of a rail suicide never leaves you'

Excellent thread dealing with some difficult stuff, which i can identify with in my non railway life - different scenarios, same issues. Respect to all railway staff who have to deal and live with these 'incidents'

Infrastructure that will never be used again

Crescent does seem to be a very restricted site. Frederick Road would seem to be a better location, much more room, still close to uni for idle students etc. (waits to be shot down in flames by people who know what they are talking about! :D )

Ah, gotcha. We're used to rain in Bolton so I don't notice it too much - whoever wrote the cliche about Manchester and rain had obviously never been to Bolton! Thought it might have been a way or getting round the clearance issue, which someone decided wasn't an issue anymore.. On a positive...

Trivia - regular stations closest to Football League (and Scots league) grounds?

<history\nostalgia_mode>Not strictly relevant as it has all gone now, but Burnden Park in Bolton had one of its stands built into the embankment of a railway</history\nostalgia_mode> http://www.stadiumguide.com/wp-content/gallery/burndenpark/burndenpark3_0.jpg

Are the resurfaced platforms at Bolton ever so slightly lower than they were, or is it just me?

A great site indeed.. Shame to see wonderful Victorian structures like the 13 arches unused and overgrown. It would be nice to see it being used for something if not transport.. Poulton looks pretty much the same! I'll be there at w/e visiting folks so will look for any changes and take pics.

Does anyone know what's being done (or not) about the Nat Grid power lines crossing the tracks near Clifton and Kearsley? Or have they decided it ain't a problem anymore like the clearances at Bolton..?

The bases at Bolton are massive! Today I saw two alongside the old concrete supports for the old station buildings and two further towards Moses Gate. Am off to Harrogate tomorrow, so will try and get a couple of pics.

That's superb! Thank you for that. I only wish the conferences I get dragged into were that informative!

    Blackpool - Manchester Electrification

That was the reason for my question - I've noticed quite a few new concrete bases appearing amongst the piles, and the new portals between Bolton and Moses Gate seem to be installed on both. Just wondered why..?

Re: the Massive bases installed at Bolton - also saw more of these on the ground at Burnden on Friday - how big are the masts going to be? And is there a particular reason for this that can be shared? Another question, how come some masts are mounted on piles and some on concrete? Is this...

Computers; what if the railway was attacked?

You could devote the entire GDP of the country to the NHS and they'd still want more!
