    Blackpool - Manchester Electrification

I don't know about anyone else, but I love seeing a 30 year old southern cast off train (319) passing through Bolton! Something with a pan!! Can't wait for the new stock when it eventually arrives.

Found this document http://www.banekonference.dk/sites/default/files/slides/9/DenDanskeBanekonference2014-1-1-1.pdf which explains some of the odd looking (to me anyway!) contenary equipment seen on some of the low bridges along the line.

Trivia: Stations which have been renamed?

Kearsley was originally called Stoneclough and Clifton was Clifton Junction I believe.

The BN tends to misinterpret most things! ;)

Northern Station Improvements & New Ticket Machines

Probably the one on the Bromley Cross bound platform where all the school kids/scrotes seem to like hanging about. Interestingly a few weeks back a PF poster appeared at the station at road level - this has now disappeared suggesting (to me at least) that installation of the machines has been...

Doh! Ignore me, just noticed posts above! Edit. Will they leave wiring Salford central and wherever the other end is until the end as they are at the live ends so to speak?

Not sure if it's the same stretch, but saw catenary and contact wire whilst passing through Salford crescent today

Excellent photos as usual Dave, every time i try to take a picture on a moving train, it ends up as a blurry mess! A couple of questions for m'learned engineers on here: 1. What are those things on the wall on picture A592e? 2. On photo A568t & A568k, the horizontal dangly bits look much less...

Sure I saw earth wire into Farnworth tunnel this morning but the camera on my phone isn't working so couldn't get a picture sorry. Also noticed what I assume to be ATF wires at points between Farnworth and SFD.

Northern Station Improvements & New Ticket Machines

Similar situation at Hall I' Th' Wood this morning - wood on the floor and some studs being put in - had a chat with two friendly Orangemen who confirmed the works (on both platforms) are for ticket machine installation.

    Scrolling Platform Indicator Screens

I'd just be grateful for any type of screen at Hall i' th' Wood! TVM would be nice too.

    New station: Maghull North

A chain is a well established unit of measurement, albeit not used much outside the railway industry nowadays. When I joined this forum, I didn't know this either, (and there's still a hell of a lot I don't know - this forum contains a huge wealth of knowledge) but I looked it up! :smile...

I would agree that Bolton does have many fine buildings, just seems like the council is hell bent on demolishing as many of them as possible and boarding up the sites, and approving mad planning schemes in the ridiculous belief that the Ryder Cup will ever be hosted in Bolton.

    Blackpool - Manchester Electrification

Excellent, thank you! There would be some who would say demolish Bolton (not the station, the whole town), but that's a separate issue!

Why so slow through Bolton? (I realise the council are trying to get visitor numbers up :D) Please excuse my engineering ignorance!

http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/news/16174427.Rail_electrification__Network_Rail_pledges_to_residents_affected_by_work/ Article in the Bolton News about disruption and inconvenience 'suffered' by residents. I suspect if they'd bothered to turn up to the meetings, they'd have known what to...
