    Layout at Tring

At Tring the 4 tracks expand to 5 through the station. How is the fifth track used ? Platforms 1 and 2 are the fast lines although I doubt if many, or even any, trains stop there. Platform 3 is for LM northbound services. When I was there Platform 5 was used for all LM southbound services...

    Pantographs on Pendolinos

Although Pendolinos have 2 pantographs, only one is raised for normal use. Is the second one purely for backup or are their occasions when both are raised and in use ?

    £7 one way

As long as you can book far in advance (as you have) and you don't change your plans ..... Yes, that is a bargain. Not everyone can do that.

    Britain's fares complexity - a tourist's viewpoint

I enclose a viewpoint that I saw elsewhere -- I am from Canada, and 4 of us will be visiting England in August. I have spent hours on the Internet trying to figure out a way to get from London to Liverpool by train without re-mortgaging the house. We in North America have always envied...

Chiltern Railways - Project Evergreen 3

Oh ! I hope that it is going to remain double track. As such that allows a good deal of timetabling flexibility and is also a key stepping stone to the full Oxford-Milton Keynes East-West rail link. I also think that the cost of the new Water Eaton Parkway with its 2 platforms would pay...

Chiltern Railways - Project Evergreen 3

Just how is Evergreen 3 being descoped ? I have read nothing about that.

GARL - Third track between Glasgow and Paisley

How is this third track going to be operated ? At what times of day is it going to be used for inbound and outbound services ? Even at peak hours I would have thought that the amount of of inbound and outbound traffic has to be about the same, so I have difficulty in understanding how this...

    Ticket Barriers when changing trains

If I am travelling from A to C and have to change trains at B, will the ticket barriers allow me to exit/re-enter so I can use the facilities of the general station while waiting ? Whatever the answer is, does it apply for all types of ticket, 'Advance', 'Off peak Saver' and ' Anytime' ...

    Electrification announcement this summer

Re: Electrifying the Severn Tunnel Not being a railway engineer, personally I have no idea whether it is possible to electrify the Severn Tunnel or not. However, if it is indeed impossible to electrify it as some contributors to this thread think, I just wonder why this information has not...

    Electrification announcement this summer

With the local elections and European elections to be held on 4th June, I would imagaine that it might make political sense to make the announcement before then rather than later. I would thank that the major decisions "Yes" or "No" have already been made - just some of the detail plus which...

    Planning HSR

... and how are you going to build a High Speed Line from Leeds to Carlisle as per the map ? Tunnel .... I don't think so. Overland .... Settle-Carlisle already exists as the best possible alignment through the Pennines.

Skipton - Colne A Chance of reopening?

I support the re-opening, but double tracked and electified back from Faringdon Junction thus allowing through Preston-Leeds electric workings. Colne-Skipton could easily become the Airdrie-Bathgate of England with just as many potential benefits. If cleared for Freight working it would also...

Level Crossings on the WCML and ECML

With the last level crossing between Euston and Wolverhampton (at Tipton)being replaced by a bridge this weekend, I was wondering how many level crossings there are left on the WCML between Euston and Glasgow. I think they are just 3, all in Scotland with the first one being on a minor road just...

NXEA - Two New Passing Loops

As the Beccles passing loop in effect halves the single line section from Oulton Broad junction to Halesworth, I suspect that the other planned loop is somewhere else in the region. I am aware that there is a plan to double about 4 miles of track between Trimley and Levington; this has...

Chiltern Railways - Project Evergreen 3

What exactly are these possible enhancements at Aynho, Northolt and Neasden ? What is the matter with Aynho flyover at the moment ?

NXEA - Two New Passing Loops

Within the recent announcement of new carriages for NXEA there was a statement that two passings loops were to be reconstructed. One is at Beccles on the Ipswich to Lowestoft line. Does anyone know the other is to be ?

    More Carriages for NXEA

Sorry Edvid, I am still a bit confused. Clearly NXEA is getting extra capacity, no argument. But with the new 350/2s arriving and the 321/4s departing are LM getting extra capacity ?

    More Carriages for NXEA

Thanks. When the order for the new LM 350/2s was placed, I hope the DfT did not put a spin on it and announce them as giving extra capacity. That clearly would not be the case if they were replacements for 321/4s going to NXEA. The public is very wary of the DfT double counting nowadays.

    More Carriages for NXEA

How come London Midland have 68 carriages spare to send to NXEA ? Can someone explain ? What this always part of a masterplan when LM received new carriages itself ?
