As well as being used on XC could other uses be found for the 222's?
On XC there are currently 63 units including the 5 HST's. If you added the 27 sets of 222's to that having removed the HST's that's 85 units, which would probably be too many.
Personally I think that they'll be reformed...
Given the limited number of non XC services between Oxford and Banbury and how busy the XC services are, it got me thinking; would running more GWR services ease pressure on XC services?
The logic is that if there were more alternative services then that could mean that people out to use GWR...
Given the announcement of the possibility of a general election on the 8th June, what part could railways take in the Manifestos of the various political parties?
There is much made by those opposed to HS2 about car automation meaning that rail demand is going to fall, and therefore by extension that HS2 will be a waste of money.
I think that there is some flaws in this thinking.
First off, although over any given 12 hour period the is likely to be...
In some of the recent franchise announcements there have been some surprises, such as TPE loco hauled trains, all new trains for GA and even the level of change being proposed in the GWR extension.
As such what surprises would you like to see, or could we see based in recent experience which...
Oh dear, Southern aren't having a great time at the moment, the consultation on their 2018 timetable should have started this week, first off there was a holding note saying that it would start Friday due to the strikes, now they are having technical problems...
There is often talk on the possible number of extra services on the SWML after Crossrail 2, however few ever make suggestions as to what that could look like. As such, rather than the traditional just add a few extra services to what currently run (i.e. an extra service to Southampton), what...
Split from Would CrossRail 2 affect the SWT Metro lines?
The only way that Crossrail could benefit others beyond replacing a DMU with an EMU, was in that by extending it that then allows the removal of an additional path being used for stopping trains from Reading to then be used for other...
Given that the 222's are not likely to be free early enough to help XC gain more capacity there is a risk (to Voyager Leasing) that XC have to look at bi-modal units. The reason it is a risk is that once XC need some they may look to replace all.
In reality it is likely that XC will end up...
Given the Blackwater Valley area has a population comparable to Milton Keynes or Plymouth how much of the following is (even allowing for it being in the future) totally crazy and how much could possibly see the light of day (even if it may later).
It is 2035 and here is a summary of rail...
Given the large number of houses which "need" (we can discuss elsewhere whether they are really needed) to be built and the disire to be sustainable, is there any justification for either the DfT or (due to scale of doing it nationally) local passenger transport authorities to have funding...
I was reading Rail this week and an article suggested that it could be possible to form up a train with a 6 Mark 4 coaches (1 first class) between a class 91 and class 43 to form a bi-modal train for ICWC. The logic being that it could then free up 221's to go to the MML to replace the HST's...
Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere:

...so more 70x commuter trains heading to London.
An interesting news story:

I would argue that by using a passenger service which already running that the reduction in emissions is quite significant. As either the emission per passenger...
Given the scale of improvements which could be forthcoming for the SWML following the completion of Crossrail 2. Is there likely to be any benefit of running some services (say 4tph) into the western half of the tunnels (to say Euston) to enable some improvements to be realised earlier than...
Since the announcement at the end of 2009 the railways have continued to see growth beyond that allowed for in the business case, investment at fairly high levels with future investment for the whole network being promised until at least 2020. As such where do people's support or lack thereof...
Given that GW will have a load of 16x's which are due to be freed up due to IEP and Electrification, how viable would it be to remove some central coaches from the three coach sets and inserted into other sets to produce 4 coach sets?
Such a set could be very useful on the Reading/Gatwick...
