I doubt if they can in regular service. Also a report from a GWR driver/manager elsewhere implies that an 80x has already traversed the tunnel on electric (presumably on test) so it appears that there is a way round it in special circumstances.
The Severn Tunnel is already live. See the GW Electrification thread: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/great-western-electrification-progress.83452/post-4547110
Reported elsewhere that Network Rail need a possession to remove the balises at either end before class 80x can traverse the...
Yep. On the Great Western electrification Amey partnered with Inabensa (Spanish) for the installation. They guys I saw putting up the wires from the HOPS train between Challow and Uffington a few years ago sounded Spanish.
Interesting article on Rail Engineer website on how the speed restrictions through Steventon were addressed resulting in the limit for electric trains being raised from 60 to 110mph last September.
Introduction quoted below, click on link for the full article...
They were certainly atmospheric, particularly if you had the window down!
Here's a video taken in the mid 70's by an old schoolfriend of mine. The film runs from Barbican to Kings X via Farringdon, what became Kings X Thameslink and the Hotel Curve.
Sorry the quality isn't brilliant by...
SNCF have repainted the first TGV SE unit 01 in its original livery

Looks as good as our HST in its commemorative livery!
I see that it's called 'Patrick' :D and pleased that it's destined for a museum. Apparently unit 02 was called...
You're quite right 'rogcov' Barbican station was not moved when the lines between Barbican (or Aldersgate & Barbican as it was then) and Moorgate were ironed out.
For interest, here's a video taken by an old schoolfriend of mine in the 1970s on the Widened Lines between Barbican and Kings...
I can remember in the early 60s when the Met/Circle Line between Aldersgate (now Barbican) and Moorgate was all in open air as your linked picture shows.
Have you tried clicking your way through this lot? Hint: it's all freight.

The ORR has now authorised the electrification from Bristol Parkway to Cardiff - including the Severn Tunnel which is subject to a derogation for the use of aluminium contact wire.

Can't speak for Swindon but I've caught 1G60 1742 from Padd to Cheltenham which is first stop Didcot a number of times. This goes through plat 9 at Reading at a good 80+mph. I think that the drivers don't hammer it any faster through Reading as they usually catch up 1C24 17:30 Padd to Taunton...
There are a few articles here: https://www.railengineer.co.uk/?s=great+eastern+furrer but not a huge amount of technical information.
Why don't you contact Noel Dolphin, MD of the UK subsidiary of Furrer + Frey? He's on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/noeldolphin/?originalSubdomain=uk and...
Pretty certain that 110mph is the present limit, though a GW insider posted elsewhere that this may be raised to 125mph in the future depending on how things (literally) pan out.
Well, they're just getting round to renewing the OLE on the London, Tilbury & Southend line (C2C) and that was put up in 1959-62 and I don't think there have been any significant line renewals since then. Similarly the GE main line has recently been renewed between Liverpool St and...
Assuming the 506s were the same as the 306s (in their original DC format), then they weren't fitted with Gresley bogies. The ride on the 306s was lively enough at 60-70mph, I wouldn't want to have been on one anywhere near 100mph!

Thanks for that (and Busaholic). Used to see the Bristol Superfreighters and Carvairs flying to/from Southend over my grandparents' house in Thorpe Bay as a kid. Didn't know about the Freddie Laker connection!
None in the up direction on the Oxford lines or the avoiders as far as I'm aware. There are signs for 80x units to switch to diesel in the down direction in Moreton Cutting and I believe that there are balises to enforce this automatically there as well (stand to be corrected on this though)...
Reported elsewhere that driver of up service from Oxford attempted diesel to electric changeover on the approach to Didcot. Given that the OLE on the up and down Oxford lines doesn't start until you reach the multi-storey Foxhall car park the outcome was never going to be good.
Platforms 3-5...
Links the London Tilbury & Southend line at Gas Factory Junction with the GE Main Line at Bow Junction.
As the Wikipedia entry says it was originally double track but singled when the DLR Stratford branch was built. No scheduled services but used for ECS workings and I've been over it during...
I think the OP was referring to the route via Bath. The route from Swindon to Bristol Parkway has been energised and available for electric traction since around the beginning of the year.
The OLE on the line between Wootton Bassett junction and just east of Chippenham (where it runs out) was...
