    Manchester - Glasgow: fare options?

Yeah I get that, sorry if I wasn't clear. I was just having a look at the most recently released advance fares available at the moment (Mid may). I just cann't see much of a deal on advance tickets.

    Manchester - Glasgow: fare options?

Hi, I'll be travelling from Manchester to Glasgow one Sunday in October. I've been having a play with the search engine at the National Rail site, towards the end of the current booking window, and I don't see much in the way of advance fares, and an anytime single is £64.50. Does anyone know...

    London - Manchester: 25th-27th May

Hi, I'm planning to travel from London to Manchester on the late May bank holiday. Leaving on Saturday 25th, I need to be in Manchester by 11am-ish. Returning on Monday 27th, not too concerned by what time, probably late morning. The advance fares seem to be a bit slow going on sale (I...

    Le Shuttle, Eurolines?

Couldn't you just turn up with a hitchhiker type sign? Surely someone would let you sit in the back of their car for 20 quid

    Compartments (French trains)

I travelled in a 2nd class compartment (after being bumped from 1st) on a Clermont-Ferrand - Paris Bercy Intercite a couple of months ago.

    Sales calls

They invariably ask "how are you?", as a way of establishing rapport I suppose. This is a good opportunity to tell them how depressed you've been since the wife left two weeks ago, taking the kids and dog, and how you've been sitting sobbing in the dark ever since, and how wonderful it is that...

    Where Shall I Go?

I would like to recommend Porthmadog in North Wales for a relaxing few days. I had a lovely short stay there last year. Beautiful small town in spectacular mountain scenery. Travel Virgin train to Birmingham New St, change onto an Arriva Wales train. Total journey time is about 6 hours...

Advance + connections - reasonable time limit?

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yeah, Picadilly line to Turnpike then bus is usually my alternative route home in the case of a late night or engineering works. It's unusual for concert venues to have a curfew later than 11 though so I should be OK as long as I leave sharply at the end.

Advance + connections - reasonable time limit?

Hi, I have this advance ticket: Sunday 10th March Wolverhampton (1145) - Euston (1337) Euston – Seven Sisters Seven Sisters (1424) - Bush Hill Park (1435) The first leg is on a booked train, the rest is "+ connections" I have just bought a ticket for a concert at KOKO (a short walk...

    Southern cash back

The Southern cashback has disappeared from Topcashback since yesterday too (I bought tickets at 2.30 yesterday afternoon and the cashback has already tracked). On Topcashback, the SWT 2.62% is dependent on the journey beginning or ending within SWT's region, so beware that one. The best I can...

Brussels to Luxembourg - why no fares?

I did Brussels to Luxembourg in November. I found 2nd class very comfortable; 2+2 seating, comfy seats, plenty of table seats if you get on at Brussels Midi. If you're arriving at Brussels on the Eurostar, you could consider buying Eurostar to Any Belgian Station, then a single from Arlon...

    The Jam bass covers Youtube

I'm no musician so I can't offer you any technical advice, but I do love The Jam. You sound like you're making fine progress for a beginner to me. The tone doesn't sound great, maybe that's just because you haven't invested in a pimped up rig yet? I like your concert videos too. I do quite a...

    French Winter Timetables/Fares

Just thought I'd bump this one to let you know how my trip went. I booked my onward tickets to Clermont-Ferrand the day they went on sale. I decided on 1st class for Eu60 instead of 30. The times looked exactly the same as the previous timetable anyway. Coming home today I get settled into my...

    Senior Oyster Card

Hi, My mother has a senior oyster card (I think that's what it's called, the one for 60 year olds only until they get their freedom pass). Tomorrow morning she needs to make the following journey: Bush Hill Park - Seven Sisters (National Rail) Seven Sisters - Pimlico (Victoria Line)...

    London to Gatwick fare options

Thanks for the advice. I thought being able to use the £18 ticket on Victoria services seemed dubious. Still it is rather bad that it shows up on the journey planner, I could've easily bought it in good faith. Glad I already know about this forum! That was pretty much what I had in mind...

    London to Gatwick fare options

Hi, I'm going to Germany this weekend, flying from Gatwick, I'm just looking at the best options for train tickets to the airport. My basic itinerary is: Bush Hill Park - Gatwick Airport, tomorrow afternoon sometime (staying at a hotel near airport ahead of early flight Saturday)...

    Sheffield to Scarborough trains tomorrow

Thanks for the info chaps. Good to know the train will empty out a bit at Doncaster. I'll make use of my years of experience travelling in London to make sure I move with a purpose to get a good seat ;-) The next day I'm coming home via Seamer and York so its only the first leg (about 20 mins) I...
