Senior Oyster Card

Hi,

My mother has a senior oyster card (I think that's what it's called, the one for 60 year olds only until they get their freedom pass).

Tomorrow morning she needs to make the following journey:

Bush Hill Park - Seven Sisters (National Rail)
Seven Sisters - Pimlico (Victoria Line)

The Victoria Line is free at any time, but National Rail is not included in the morning. Is it possible to load some credit on the Oyster Card, then touch in/out at the beginning and end of the journey, with only the first leg being charged?

I believe it is possible to load credit onto the senior (and indeed the childrens) oysters.

You cannot add Pay As You Go Credit to the 60+ Oyster Photocard. It is possible, as you say, for PAYG credit on Zip cards.

A separate Oyster PAYG card will need to be held, and used.

Potentially bus 329 to Turnpike Lane and then Piccadilly line to Finsbury Park may be a better choice?

Or perhaps a 192 to Tottenham Hale; it goes right past Bush Hill Park station whereas the 329 is a little walk away.

On the other hand, if using PAYG (on a separate Oyster card), note that the person doing the journey would need to touch in at Bush Hill Park using the PAYG Oyster, then touch out at the standalone validators in the National Rail passageway at Seven Sisters. If doing this, there would be no need to touch back in using the 60+ Oyster, nor would there be any need to go through gates or exit/re-enter the station.

Does the OP's mother have a Senior Railcard? That can be registered against a PAYG Oyster to give 1/3 off tube and rail fares and the daily capping.

Unfortunately that wouldn't help in this case, as no railcard discounts are available on the Oyster during the morning peak. Furthermore, a paper ticket wouldn't help in this case either as the Senior Railcard isn't valid in the morning peak in the NSE area.
