Best fish & chips near a station?

Captain Cod's at Kidderminster. Just across the road from the stations. Absolutely gorgeous grub from there. Great chippy.

Congrats on getting the job, WMSC is all 8 hour rosters with 12s on Sundays. The LOM should be able to send you the roster.

    Chase Line... Shambles..??

The service on the Chase line is still a disgrace. From seeing perhaps one or two services a week terminated at Hednesford before the timetable change there are now multiple trains a day turned back, even when only 8 mins late at Cannock. Before the change trains had to be 20 or more late before...

The Bloxwich Spelter works branch line

Always was interesting to deal with the Bloxwich Tripper. 66s did work it towards the end, so did 56s just before they finished with EWS. Some good info here: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/61164-bloxwich-and-the-cannock-chase-line/ And from the box:

Old school stations from a Virgin Conductor

I heard a London Midland conductor on a Walsall-Wolverhampton a while ago announce Duddeston as Vauxhall and Duddeston and Wolverhampton as Wolverhampton High Level. Thought it was rather nice

Level crossing incident in Lincoln being investigated

Poor woman. I've had concerns over auto-lower for some time. Yes she was in the wrong but probably didn't expect the barrier to come down while her vehicle was still on the crossing.

Train toilets being used as private compartments..

Have you seen a 170 toilet? I can't imagine more than one fitting in there...:D

Train toilets being used as private compartments..

Anyone else noticed this? It seems to be more and more common around the West Midlands. A few times this week I've seen someone dive into the toilet at New Street and remain in there until the train reaches Rugeley Trent Valley! Nice, selfish way of getting a qiuet seat to yourself and avoiding...

[Sky News] One In Four Admit To Fare Dodging

I'm surprised LM are taking this action. They don't usually bother. On my local line it is very rare to be checked. Since the barriers have been installed at New Street it is even more unusual. After about 2100 no guards walk through and to be honest I can't blame them for not wanting the...

    Ticket checking at Nuneaton?

Well I take it all back about no ticket checks on the Cannock line. There was a star on there yesterday evening who took no messing! All the usuals who had no intention of paying were ejected at the next station.

Virgin Trains removes standard class quiet zone; worst intercity TOC in living memory

Quiet coaches, like seat reservations, should all be removed now. They are no longer appropriate. BR never had quiet coaches. Instead they had something far more welcome: longer trains.

    Ticket checking at Nuneaton?

Which is why it shouldn't be the job of the guard to sell tickets. Every station should have a staffed booking office. No ticket? - no getting on the train. That will of course never happen....

    Ticket checking at Nuneaton?

Interesting topic this. On the Rugeley Trent Valley to Birmingham New Street route ticket checks are erratic to say the least. I can understand it is difficult to get through the train at peak times and not worth the hassle on the late services but during the afternoon? Its rare to get checked...
