Is this due to disability regulations requiring a disabled toilet for stock if they have toilets installed? If so that would be quite a shame, almost the opposite of what disability regulations are trying to achieve.

It's relative, and yes the 230 may not be anywhere near a 700, 345, or even Electrostar - but when the alternative is a hugely overloaded Pacer or other decrepit 40 year old 1 to 2 car British Rail ****box, Vivarail's 230 is a superb train.

Slightly off topic but 'privatisation' in the UK seems to have been done in a way which combines the worst aspects of privately run rail with the worst aspects of public ownership.

Vivarail put a lot of effort into re-engineering these units to provide a cheap train which improves peoples journeys in terms of comfort, crowding, and with little investment. They have achieved a lot and are hardly a failure of a company despite a small issue.

That is quite unfortunate and in fact seeing that image is quite saddening. I hope it was a one off issue which is easy to solve.
