Couple who live near railway are upset by noisy Class 37's.

37s may emit a relatively high amount of local pollution, but overall they are incredibly efficient compared to the alternative. Over their 50+ year lifespan they have saved thousands of lives from pollution related deaths by taking a significant number of lorries and cars of the roads. If you...

    Most Hated Bus

I might be getting confused between the DAF DB250 or B7TL. All I know is it is the ALX400 from Arriva which would make a huge amount of noise and accelerate slower than a bicycle. Some were better than others but there were a few which were incredibly slow and loud.

Couple who live near railway are upset by noisy Class 37's.

God I wish there were 37s in BR large logo livery roaring outside my house. All I see from my flat overlooking the NLL is 66s, 59s, and more 66s.

    Most Hated Bus

Arriva London DLA ALX400 bodied DAF DB250LF - Slowest, noisiest and worst ride of any bus I've used. Pure hell when they used to turn up instead of an e400. New routemaster - great to look at but on the top deck it is hard to breathe.

Getting a Train Cleaning Job, Unbelievable!!!!!

I agree that some questions can be attributed to finding subservience, but honestly asking a train driver if he would go and help the caterers washing up is more of a common sense question. Why should the driver go and help the caterers?

Sadiq Kahn cancels NB4L/New Routemaster contract with Wrightbus

As someone who cycles in London I am very happy to see the end of bendy buses. It doesn't matter how long a rigid bus is, it's very easy to see how it will manoeuvre. With a bendy bus you have to consider where the rear section is. Now this is fine on a straight section of road - but interacting...

    Class 373 Eurostar withdrawals

I would love to see some pictures of the scrapping, it's quite an historic moment as 373s are the first channel tunnel sets. I don't agree with the French culture of scrapping in private to protect their branding. Drone sounds like a superb idea, hope someone can catch some action.

Chris Grayling takes 1801 Cardiff to Llanishen 13/01/17

Seems quite pathetic. While there are millions of huge problems the DfT does have, he spends a day making a point that issues on some obscure train service in Wales isn't caused by the DfT. Thank you Mr Grayling, you are a true asset.

    Gloucester Train Crash (13/01)

Interesting as appears to be a second time that an incident similar to this has happened to FGW/GWR.

The sooner the laws change on railway ticketing issues the better.

The views of some people on this thread show us precisely what is wrong with the railways in the UK. This is the attitude which was meant to be removed in 1993 when privatisation happened. It's inward looking, inconsiderate, and arrogant. Jump to blame the customer without considering the...

Sadiq Kahn cancels NB4L/New Routemaster contract with Wrightbus

I believe the passenger service assistant on the New Routemaster would put people off using the rear door to fare dodge. They did used to watch people as they entered so would see if you had touched in or not. If you didn't I doubt they would ignore it. I don't remember bendy buses ever...

Sadiq Kahn cancels NB4L/New Routemaster contract with Wrightbus

The length of them and the fact they are articulated on the awkward and sometimes windy streets of London. Bendy buses work well on wide streets in cities built on a grid system, but in London they are a recipe for disaster.

Getting a Train Cleaning Job, Unbelievable!!!!!

It's hard to be rejected but if you keep applying for them you will probably get one. There's a lot of competition for these kinds of jobs at the moment that's why they can really raise the standards. The small details count. I understand it's frustrating but that's how it is. Once you get to...

Creation of class 230 DEMUs from ex-LU D78s by Vivarail

I'm starting to wonder why Vivarail didn't get their hands on the class 508s that were scrapped by London Overground on the North London Line. Surely they would have provided a better base to add diesel engines to and create something which would essentially be a modernised class 150. I may be...

The sooner the laws change on railway ticketing issues the better.

I completely agree with the OPs opinion in regard to treating someone as a criminal for mistyping a few numbers. How this can be enforced is beyond me, when there is no authentication on the numbers. The customer can type any number. So you are relying on the customer to perform a pretty...

Southern DOO: ASLEF members vote 79.1% for revised deal

You constructed a strawman argument. The original point is not countered by what you said.

Southern DOO: ASLEF members vote 79.1% for revised deal

Anything would be a potential distraction if a driver has to get out of the train when stopped. Drivers are already under a lot of pressure to follow certain procedures and a sudden change of setting outside the cab could cause them to miss steps or forget things. I'm a passenger, and I want...

Southern DOO: ASLEF members vote 79.1% for revised deal

So this is why a guard would handle the wheelchair while the driver focuses on controlling the train. I agree that having to get out of the driving environment to wheel someone on board is a recipe for distraction. You don't see pilots wheeling disabled passengers on, the pilot focuses on...

Sadiq Kahn cancels NB4L/New Routemaster contract with Wrightbus

To be fair the borismaster was meant to have an on board conductor to watch people board so this would have put people off fare dodging. However a conductor on bendy buses would probably have solved the fare dodging issue. But for me the fare dodging issue is irrelevant - bendy buses were...

c2c sold by National Express to Trenitalia

Oh - I will never forget Silverlink Metro. I have never seen more grime coating on a window than on Silverlink 150s. I have also never had to go home after 4 half hourly trains were cancelled on me with no information at all (before realtimetrains or smartphones). I have also not since boarded a...
