Drivers for one TOC driving trains for another (as part of normal timetabled services

Emt Drivers and guards used to operate the 12.06 Nottingham - Cardiff for 1 year after the franchise changed. My last safety crit card as a guard still had 170 on as traction even though it was 2 years since I last worked one. I had the pleasure of working the last emt operated service to...

ECS - why not run as passenger services?

I can tell you now its not done for the staffs benefit. Find me one member of staff that likes to sign on for duty at 3.03 am. It isnt run for EMT benefit either. They would happily not run a service until the 8.52 to Norwich. This is the 5.24 Nottingham - Liverpool working. They run it because...

ECS - why not run as passenger services?

Nope the goverment dictates that trains run at 6.45 am from Liverpool so we run it. It was part of emt franchise commitment and would £4000 a day to not run it. Same with the Crewe service

ECS - why not run as passenger services?

Up until about 12 months ago 2 trains went ecs to Liverpool now they couple at Nottingham and travel together to Liverpool. Under Central days it was operated from Crewe depot however it was stabled at Tyseley. Crewe is now a London Midland depot so it has to operate from Nottingham. --- old...

    2 car meridians

According to Bombardier at derby the 222 can be reprogrammed within a couple of hours. 221 and 222 are only compatable for rescue purposes only and cannot be coupled electrically only mechanical. The 222 is easier to do than the 220/221. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- I did 222...

ECS - why not run as passenger services?

usually empty stock is routed away from the usual routes for drivers to retain knowledge. For example Nottingham - Worksop 03.25 is routed via Pye Bridge 03:10 Nottingham - Liverpool via Dore curve and Chat moss If these routes are unavailable it doesnt matter but with passengers they have to...

It was on test for onboard Wi-Fi which has been fitted to these 2 coaches. its currently on the north departure road beside the new shed at Derby. I know because i put it there. The other coach is on the bank and the fourth is across the road being repaired. It was also tested for the new eco...

East Midlands Trains to close buffet cars

i would agree with the complimentry tea and coffee it got people to the counter and led to sales. However upper level managers decided that cuts must be made.

How do some train guards get away with not checking/charging for the tickets ?

Which means the guard opens the door, Closes the door sees the train away from the station remaining at the door until the train has fully left the platform. Keys out makes an annoucement thanks to Health and safety. Picks up a machine opens the door sells a ticket which convieniently is payed...

    Liverpool-Manchester-Nottingham-somewhere else?

The 170 were not wanted by EMT as the engineer who made the decision was a SWT one who had just offloaded the 170 from Salisbury. on paper a SWT 158 or 159 was 3 times more reliable than the 170/3. However they didnt bank on the appalling state of Centrals motley collection of 158. They were at...

East Midlands Trains to close buffet cars

Ok lets debunk some myths and histerics being thrown about. Yes the buffet car is being closed and replaced by a trolley. However the trolley will be replenished with endless hot water from either the HST Kitchen or the Meridien Kitchen. The stock for the trolley will also be kept there as well...

Can a DMU be dragged by a loco safely beyond its maximum speed?

Your spot on TDK it is a serious breach but under the old days of Central he somehow managed to get away with it.

Can a DMU be dragged by a loco safely beyond its maximum speed?

Before Blackboxes were fitted speed limits were exceeded when running late without authority but now they are all fitted you wouldnt dare its not worth the risk. Certain early class 150 did have a maximum speed of 75mph however they were able to top 95mph. the Central trains incident did...

    Speeding...

Black boxes that can be randomly downloaded. If you are caught say doing 5mph faster than linespeed then a driver manager would have a word. 10 mph over and you can expect a form 1 in the post with a please explain. At junctions and certain sections TPWS will monitor your speed. so say a...

why does driving different classes need special training?

I drive hst Meridian and Sprinters all 3 have different types of control. The hst brake takes nearly 4 times as long to respond than a meridian does. If you start to slip,a 153 doesnt have sanders to help you so you have to drive it differently than everything else. We get 3 weeks for each type...

East Midlands HST on hire to East Coast

Unfortunetly its an operational issue only Nottingham drivers sign Liverpool and only Derby drivers sign 222 to be fair a 5 car 222 actually seats less than a 4 car 158. Incidently the first 153 has begun refurbishment and is progressing nicely. saw it at Neville Hill yesterday
