2 car meridians

I was in Long Eaton on Tuesday about 13:30 waiting for my train home. A 2 car meridian (both ends) went straight through the station with passengers on. Have EMT started running 2 car meridians now?

I seriously doubt it. It could be a light running up to Derby Etches Park

I saw this at Derby last week, looks like a maintenance case out for a test run.

That is quite a strange sight! I thought "god, no!" when I read this but each end is practically half a coach (seating wise), so one assumes just being moved for re-arrangement with other coaches?

These two car Meridians will replace the 153's in 30 years time.

I went past Etches park the other day and its seems there's a number of meridians in pieces - i know one thats been punched together is 222005 (the one involved in the market harborough incident) which has a coach inserted from an ex hull trains 222

It was on test for onboard Wi-Fi which has been fitted to these 2 coaches. its currently on the north departure road beside the new shed at Derby. I know because i put it there. The other coach is on the bank and the fourth is across the road being repaired.
It was also tested for the new eco package recently installed

Were the 222s built in such a way that they can be readily re-marshalled into different lengths without the on-board computer throwing a tantrum? It's often been said that the 220&221 series will sit and sulk without extensive reprogramming if re-marshalled.

Any limitation on maximum speed when operating as a 2 unit formation?

Yes, the 222s have Bombardier's TMS whereas the 220s/221s have Alstom's TMS so the Voyagers can 'speak' to the Pendolinos. This means the 222s sort of... work

According to Bombardier at derby the 222 can be reprogrammed within a couple of hours. 221 and 222 are only compatable for rescue purposes only and cannot be coupled electrically only mechanical. The 222 is easier to do than the 220/221.

I did 222 traction exam 3 weeks ago and there is nothing in the instructions to stop it going 125. if it was the brakes isolated there are speed penalties. But 2 fully working Driving cars should be able to travel at linespeed
