I'm just amazed at how many "Crosti" 9Fs have hauled a passenger train. ;)

I Looking at the www.derbysulzers.com website it seems that the 24s were a few tons over design weight and D5002-6 had their boilers removed but no mention of re-instatement or otherwise.

My very vague idea was that the 33s were delivered late.

I have a very vague idea that the steam heating boiler gave rise to weight issues when the 24s were loaned to the Southern & some were removed.

The Paddingtons finished in March '67.

Today I recall with some incredulity that I used to see the Paddington - Birkenhead sleeper in Woodside station. I can't remember what the load was in terms of sleepers and day coaches. Thinking of the mid sixties, can anyone provide any information?

Perusing a One-inch map (Rev 1960-61), Sheet 92 "Pickering", I noticed for the first time (I've been interested in the area for decades) that a mineral railway ran virtually due north from New Bridge for about three miles. I assume that this was to serve quarries but little detail is shown...

I understand that initially they were referred to as "Black 'uns" to distinguish them from the red Jubilees. I suspect that "Black 5" was post war.
