WCRC served with new Improvement Notice

And the slightly odd, but necessary due to the loading gauge, Repositioning of the horns. 125 Group vehicles also have window bars fitted to their stock.

    DRS to sell Class 57/3s

Perhaps the biggest surprise from this is that none are GBRf bound.

Should the railway engage in vanity projects, such as the recent Pendolino at Paddington?

Indeed, a short drag and some hired in GBRf drivers isn’t going to make a dent in railway safety budgets. And if anything, it’s probably cost less to do than GBRs Liverpool Street publicity event last week too. Two of these three live on the western, and all the IET has received is some measly...

    DRS to sell Class 57/3s

Not so suggested but confirmed. Romic put out their social media post yesterday confirming that those two are now theirs - and are to be used largely as their two 20s currently are, but can also be available for Railtour use (with GBRf using theirs for the forthcoming LU moves and H+H 50 being...

Lack of train orders in the next five years & what should be done about it

Indeed, boom and bust. The two I can see being most affected over the coming years are CAF’s Newport facility (unless they are building the LNER fleet?) and Hitachi’s Newton Aycliffe facility (less at risk of closure than CAF but I can’t see more orders than that from open access coming).

Bluebell Railway - Operational Disel Locos

Well I take that back then and well done to Hastings Diesels and Bluebell Railway! Just thinking about the irony - you’d never see such a thing 10 years ago!

Should the railway engage in vanity projects, such as the recent Pendolino at Paddington?

Wouldn’t be the first time the WCML has appeared on the GMWL…;) Even Brunel has once been spotted eyeing up the quality dangly coat hanger traction

Bluebell Railway - Operational Disel Locos

Unlikely. 1001 has a booked charter to do next week (although they may only need half the unit) prior to being free for the Bluebell.

Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

Exactly. Issues can crop up with anything over time and use. Not that I am trying, nor wish to defend Hitachi, but a unit which may be fine during static testing at Merchant Park can develop faults when members of the public start to use them whilst being ran up and down the MML at 100 and...

Bluebell Railway NSE Diesel Gala 4-6 September 2026

They do have a small choice of Diesel locos - their resident 09, on holiday 33108 and the resident 73. I wonder if 1001 will arrive earlier now though with the steam ban in place and with no tours booked until late September, that would allow more flexibility and allow them to advertise...

Bluebell Railway NSE Diesel Gala 4-6 September 2026

I hope it does, I rather enjoyed a few days visiting last year for 1001!

    New 720s (?)

We’re certainly bordering on the speculation side of things here but, I would say the likelier contenders are between Alstom and Siemens - both of course will need work, both have a significant UK presence. Neither Hitachi and CAF have particularly covered themselves in glory of late, more so...

Yeovil Junction - Exeter to become 2 hourly again from 10 August 2026

On a side tangent, as a result of this can we expect to see the evening GWR stopping service re-instated which ran during last year’s temporary timetable?

    Stagecoach Midlands

Out of interest, E400 MMCs 11664/65/66/67/68 which came down from Midlands to South for the Farnborough Airshow have since moved on to South East and to Eastbourne - are these permanent transfers to South East?

    DLR B23 Stock (CAF Inneo)

God they sound awful. Some of the information is sped up, some of it is clear, some of it she sounds incredibly depressed. It’s an absolute jumble.

Oxford Corridor Phase 2 & Platform 5 updates

It never ends… Whilst I fully understand that combining utility works makes sense while the road is closed and you have access, it does feel like it’s one thing after another unfortunately.

    Transpenine Express 185 'burning' smell

The only other thing I can think of is, given the time of the morning and if they have them, possible use of the Webasto heater has been switched on prior to entry to service?

Could the undamaged 158 vehicles from Talerddig be reformed?

I can’t see why not, it’s worked for Northern and East Midlands Trains / Railway for several years. I think there’s been a few hybrid units that way too.

Could the undamaged 158 vehicles from Talerddig be reformed?

They may still be of use to form Hybrid units though, or if the Robo-Bog / PRM toilet can be installed into one vehicle. Is there much difference between the 52 / 57 cars on a 158 other than the toilet? Eg could two 57 cars work together with suitable modifications?
