I’m not sure what the situation was last Christmas, however the work around for a couple of winters was a former Nightstar Mk3 Gen Van hired from Eastern Rail Services and located at Inverness. Indeed it was even painted into Midnight Teal and given Generator Car with a giant plug on the side...
No, it’s somewhat late so I’ve forgotten how the switch around takes place. Whether the northbound highlander returns south with the highlander or goes to the Klondike Road, or if it takes the ECS of the Edinburgh lowlander portion back to Polmadie etc.
Sadly the Mk5s ride quality is also...
That’s a little concerning, I can’t remember how it goes but isn’t that the loco which in turn runs the southbound highland back?
(I’m on the Southbound highlander at the moment)
It is interesting though, as I thought the initial plan was to go down the Liverpool / Manchester franchising route than outright purchasing the NXWM operation and going from there, almost akin to Lothian.
Coupled with their somewhat finicky nature and the loss of their home dedicated depot hasn’t helped. It took Alsthom several years to get them to settle down, before the transfer of the depot to CAF (it’s always a recipe for disaster when another manufacturer if bought in to maintain someone...
But, those that have been bought back from storage have largely had issues with their complex electronics eg 387, 175…
150s thankfully are largely devoid of this. And are a fleet Exeter TMD know the insides of probably better than the back of their own hands. It’s like bringing a 1960s...

Perhaps, it’s time for the DfT to bite their own bullet and allow any of the stored pending scrap Welsh 150s to have another summer if there are any left in store?
Only the DfT is the reason why...
I can only presume that it’s down to the somewhat nomadic maintenance regime for the fleet. Other Desiro UK units of a similar age are putting in day to day reliable service. Basing them at Bedford and converting that to a Siemens Depot would probably go some way to alleviate that than dragging...
Correct, the 810s would have been planned during the bidding phase and contracts signed with Hitachi upon being confirmed as Franchise winner.
The cracking issue came to light during April 2021, so there’s little way that Hitachi would have known about it until the 800s had spent a few years...
It was. The Moquette on South West Trains was the custom “Surbiton Timetable” with Red used for Standard Class and Blue for First. The only reason for it lasting this long is down to the Desiro’s having E-Leather (and new seats in the 444s) and the Diesel fleet being a little neglected in this...
Social Media posts were largely by the SETG FYI who were asked by LSL if there were any remaining Camshaft equipment left over at Wimbledon, and SETG with their knowledge and experience through ownership of 3417 obliged.
I wonder if they were hoping 1881s (and the VOPs) equipment would still...
At least there’s a lot of downhill running on the Bluebell. Maybe they’ve worked out a way of fitting regen to them!

150s are better for Boardmasters being large people movers. The larger doors equals better access, plus for those who can and want to risk it can convey surfboards (though Boardmasters seems to have largely forgotten its roots these days) as only boards can be carried on those and the Night...
I wonder if it’s part of a deal being drawn up by Alstom? Eg, they come back in to help fix the 222s (again), whilst also allowing the use of the “reserved” 6 that were due to go to their W&S operation keeping them turned over nicely.
After all, they are proving some technical support to...
Please don’t! These things are already the Triggers Broom of the Southern without giving their 4th rebuild / refurbishment!
Add in Scotland dumping theirs in a few years time with the large new standardised EMU order too. Plus, if ScotRail were to consider taking on more EMUs then they have...
It’s a Hitachi thing on these - despite the same seat being used across the new 2019+ TPE fleets (and same design retrofitted to the 185s), Hitachi refused to allow it citing the leather headrest as a new seat and needing rigorous testing to their standards.
Also, the haunts of the GWR launch...
