    Shunt driver for c2c

It’s been a long time since I took mine so it’s probably changed. I just used the practice materials that were sent and kept practicing.

    Shunt driver for c2c

I think it’s around 12 weeks. Combination of classroom and practical training driving the trains and marshalling the trains in the depot. First 8 weeks will be based at Shoebury depot and the remaining will be done at the depot you will be working at. Either East Ham or Shoeburyness.

    Shunt driver for c2c

Free travel on c2c. Free travel on Greater Anglia 75% discount on other TOC’s. Overtime has dried up a bit lately (but sometimes 1 or 2 shifts still need covering each day) as there have been a few new shunters joining. But there are plans for more drivers courses in the future so when shunt...

    Shunt driver for c2c

No extra allowance. Bank holidays for shunters outside. You can put in not to work and you may not be rostered on but it goes on a count of how many you worked. When you start you are given a average count so you don’t start at 0. Although if you are on nights probably very little chance of...

    Shunt driver for c2c

No same salary as the Shoeburyness depot. I believe. I believe that was done away with years ago as part of a pay deal. Way before I started.

    Driver exodus from certain TOCs

They have recently taken on a few qualified drivers from other companies. But as u say all new drivers come from internal applicants at the moment. Not sure if this will change in the future or not.

c2c training is based at Shoeburyness depot Classroom is Monday to Friday normally starting around 09:00. Training in the depot can vary as you need to observe and be trained on arrivals and departures of the trains so this will be a combination of early morning starts or early afternoon...

    Shunt driver for c2c

Training money is around £27k once training and final assessments are passed it rises to just over £32k. Minimum 3% increase for the next 3 years. There have been a lot of driver courses run lately and a lot of shunt drivers have been progressing to mainline. Have to do a minimum of 6 months...

    C2c shunter salary

If u PM me your email address I can send a pic of the current roster at East Ham

    C2c shunter salary

All new shunters have to start at East Ham and transfer to Shoeburyness now. So probably won’t see an advert for Shoebury.

    Driver exodus from certain TOCs

Not always about the money. c2c lost a few drivers but they left because they mainly lived closer to the MTR depots and their t&c’s were better.

What were you before you joined the railway?

I was a car mechanic for 13 years before joining the railway as a depot driver. Now a mainline driver instructor.

    Shunter/depot driver to Mainline

At Shoeburyness shunt drivers take trains from the platforms into the yard so you will encounter passengers moaning if there are delays or cancellations. And could encounter track / signal failures as well. Most new starters have been sent to East Ham recently and been told to apply for transfer...

    Shunter/depot driver to Mainline

c2c used to only accept enhanced pass when the role was depot driver and it was automatic progression when you got to the top of the list. Now the time has been renamed to shunt driver you have to apply the same as every other shunt driver at the depot. Lots of shunt drivers are progressing at...

Greater Anglia or C2C mainline driver?

At the moment most of the new trainee drivers have been told they are to go to East Ham as that’s where they are short of drivers, regardless of if they were shunters at Shoebury so I expect the waiting list will increase soon. There are currently only 3 or 4 on the transfer list to go Shoebury...

Greater Anglia or C2C mainline driver?

You have to start off as a shunter driver at c2c first. The salary in 2017 was £23k rising to £27k once passed out as a Shunter driver. There has been a couple of pay rises since and I think the salary for shunt drivers is about £31-32k (not 100% sure on this figure) When you start mainline...

Greater Anglia or C2C mainline driver?

National express left it in a right mess with lack of recruitment and cost cutting. Trenitalia are also cost cutting but at least they are recruiting more drivers and depot staff but they need more rolling stock ASAP. Too many 4 cars running around in peak times. And the units are being used...
