Went to Stainmore 150 event at Kirby Steven this week-end. If any railway deserves to sucseed its this one. Lots of passion and hard work has obviously gone into it this far. Anyone planning a S & C photo journey in near future should call & visit.
Major funding still required, but eventual...
A working steam loco on the main line is something we should all be grateful for, no matter what shape or size.We all have our favorits and as far as I am concerned some should & could go back to the likes of the NRN while others which pioneered the comeback in the early 80's should be out there...
Anyone got any timings for this saturdays ( & subsequent saturdays) cumbrian Mnt express?

Namely "Poulton & wyre railway society" (www.pwrs.org)
Big article about it in this months "lancashire magazine"
Check wind direction for steam! I was 3 miles south of Carnforth thismorning & the wind was blowing off the sea (westerly) & consequently caused the exhaust from the 1st loco to obliterate the 2nd loco & 1st 2 carriges! (still looked blloody good though)!
linesmen in lineside huts every couple of miles, so if there was a lineside fire it could be brought under control quite quickly.
Also up o a few years ago, the lineside itself was kept in much better condition and was'nt allowed to encroach anywhere near the actual track. Financial cutbacks...
65/66 a different "Brit" every other night for about six weeks on the 8.pm parcels out of B-pool north. (& yes one was Britannia)! Others of note included Earl Haig.
So no, your not the only one whos memory goes back to the 60's!
Has anyone got old photographs (or better still 8/16mm footage on CD) of blackpool north in the mid 60's, especially around the shed/turntable etc.
I can remeber remeber up to 34 specilas each summer saturday with 19 coaches on one. I think that was in the hands of a 9F.
At the tender age of...
Re your hertitage posting. There is another option that we all tend to miss.
The "stuffed" ones! Nearly all preserved railways have the locos that were restored & have now expired certificates and rather than attempt tp raise funds (which I'll come to in a minute) leave them languishing for...
