Anyone know the progress on 46115 and/or its likelihood of heading the West Highlander ?

I'm sure they know at Carnforth but WCRC are not noted for being free with information.
However, I can tell you that none other than David Smith himself was heard to say when asked how the Scot was getting on, 'It'll be ready when it's ready'.
I would say it's 50/50 for that tour.

Many thanks indeed - that's why I asked - I know West Coast are generally tight lipped!

perhaps becuase they dont want the spotters/ puffer buffers kicking off when the works turn out to take longer than planned a dirty diesel turns up!

Anyway - a kettle is a kettle! ( and its not a proper loco from the LNER!) So as long as one show up everyone will be happy!:lol:

Trust me when I tell you, not everyone will be happy if SG is not on this tour and that filthy, vile, disguting pile of .................. turns up!

Seems very doubtful at this stage. Most likely 44932 or 48151 but I'd guess the former is most likely as they'll have it back at Carnforth after today's SSE and can fettle it through the week while the 8F does next week's Fellsman.
All speculation, of course!

Since the overwhelming majority of passengers on this tour are Joe Public rather than hardened steam buffs I think the unhappy band will be quite small in numbers. Most will understand the reasons for the change and not throw their toys out of the pram.

Okay, for a start, if 48151 crosses the line into Staffordshire, i might not have such a problem but if that other one comes even close, I will be waiting at the border with a gun to shoot it's wheels off!

That 'thing' is not welcome in this country or any neighbouring counties!

Dare i even ask what the problem is?

A working steam loco on the main line is something we should all be grateful for, no matter what shape or size.We all have our favorits and as far as I am concerned some should & could go back to the likes of the NRN while others which pioneered the comeback in the early 80's should be out there fot all to see.(Evening star & Green Arrow spring to mind immediatly)
With regard to S-Guardsman & carnforth. I'm reticent to disclose to much but I know someone who works there & i'm told they have there own agenda. Refurbing carridges and maintaining a working fleet of deisles is a main priority as thats where the main cash flow comes from. The "Royal Scot" rake is the main job at the moment as it is booked out on numeroud tours over the autumn. You can substitute locos but seemingly not specified rakes of coaches!
With that in mind we have yet again 5305 deputising for 70013 over Sat/Mon because guardsman is laid up & cant fulfill its roster (which would have allowed 70013 to see out its 2 S&C turns over the bank holiday-looked good though last night on the extra Cathederals)

Information received today suggests that the Scot may be available for the West Highlander. Not certain but much more likely.
Still most unlikely for 3rd September though.

Thanks all - it's great to have everyone chipping in. Let's hope 46115 can make a first to Fort William. There's never been any LMS 4-6-0 greater than a Black 5 there to my knowledge and the only Pacific ever was Clan Cameron in June 1956. Nor am I aware of a Scot leaving Glasgow Queen St. (though I suspect there just may have been - replies please)

SG on the West Highland should be a memorable event !!

Confirmed on uksteam and another forum that this is now to be hauled by 'Black Five' 44932. No Scots Guardsman.

If the rumour reported elsewhere proves correct, although 44932 reached Glasgow today, it has since been failed. With what, I know not. Nor do I know what will happen tomorrow.
Hopefully it's no more than a rumour but I'm glad I didn't book for this one.

Further information...
It wasn't a rumour.
45407 is currently enroute to Cadder Yard to take the train north from Queen St. in the morning.

V heavy rain here in the Highlands!

Got a reasonably good shot of 45407 hauling it over Glen Falloch viaduct on Sunday - will post when I get back.
