Swanage Railway - could we see trains to Wareham in 2024?

As the crow flies Swanage Pier is only 7 miles from Poole Station. I'd go for the Poole Harbour Emirates Airway with intermediate stations at Brownsea Island and Studland Bay, be a huge tourist attraction in its own right, environmentally friendly and generate local employment.

Swanage Railway - could we see trains to Wareham in 2024?

The obvious reason why it won't happen is that nobody is going to pay the subsidy for mainline stock to come to operate at a maximum of 25 mph over 9 miles and 77 chains of exheritage railway. The losses on the service of a year round service would be eye watering and make the SRCs loss look peanuts

Swanage Railway - could we see trains to Wareham in 2024?

I believe that the freeholder of the majority of the Swanage Branch is Dorset CC or its successor who will be a statutory authority. I'm uncertain that Network Rail can actually compulsory purchase the property of a statutory authority. In reality these sort of things would be agreed between...

What if the UK’s motorway network had followed the “Neubaustrecke” concept?

That's really how the M20 was done. The Maidstone bypass was built as the A20(M) before being absorbed in to Junctions 5 to 8 of the M20. The spur road to the A20 at junction 8 is the old motorway terminus including the overbridge. The A20 Ashford bypass was absorbed in to the M20 for a section...

Swanage Railway - could we see trains to Wareham in 2024?

Surely the trial was optimised to maximise the income whilst minimising the costs. If you'd offered early morning and late evening services you'd have been unable to run the service with a single crew which would have made the bottom line even more disastrous. Ive never had any dealings with...

    New routes for sleeper trains

I'd suggest that if you wanted a sleeper service from the Southwest to Scotland at minimum loss it would start from Exeter, Tiverton Parkway, Taunton, Bristol Parkway, Swindon, Reading, London Ealing Broadway, Luton Airport Parkway, Leicester, East Midlands Parkway, Sheffield, Leeds, Newcastle...

Gatwick Express branded cancellations [19 Feb] and timetable history

The Haywards Heath issue was damage to equipment caused during the weekend engineering works which as a result overran. It was temporarily repaired with 1 platform oou. The Littlehampton train was on time departing LA and arriving at West Worthing but 15 down leaving Worthing for reasons unknown.

    Railfan interest among 18-35s

At the K&ESR we do have quite a few younger volunteers. It's also a generational thing. We have a lot of father and son/ daughter or Grandparent & Grandchildren. Our marketing manger is the Grand daughter of the guard of the last br passenger train.

Should there be a total ban on autofill for Railcards on online ticket sales

I don't actually shop around that much actually but probably use different retailers depending on what I'm buying. If you're spending a significant amount on same day purchases its difficult to ignore the 5% cashback plus 1.3 virgin points per £ via American Express and train line I enjoy till...

Eurostar St Pancras bedlam: solution could be to start some trains at Ebbsfleet or Ashford

I'm told by a reputable source that the link as is was put in as a tick box exercise on the hs1 contract and that when it was originally planned that a major rebuild of the nll and Camden Road Station would have been required to enable passenger trains to have run through. This I think was the...

Should there be a total ban on autofill for Railcards on online ticket sales

Doesnt that really tie the customer to one retailer though. I shop around for the best deal on tickets using cashback etc or airlines airmiles etc. I dont particularly want to use a retailer to buy a railcard unless theres a good deal. 1708014413 from the number of 16-25 railcards I see from...

Eurostar St Pancras bedlam: solution could be to start some trains at Ebbsfleet or Ashford

Neither Ebbsfleet or Stratford are big enough stations to terminate start a full Eurostar from. They would also need to run ECS to/from St Pancras to reverse.

Should there be a total ban on autofill for Railcards on online ticket sales

HMForces railcards have only ever been issued by the military units I as a deduction from pay. Veterans Railcards are I believe a commercial product paid for by the Veterans agency (ministry of defence). Neither have ever been available at stations as far as I know, its got nothing to do with TPRs.

Eurostar St Pancras bedlam: solution could be to start some trains at Ebbsfleet or Ashford

I dont think the hs1/nll link is actually signalled to passenger standards. The tracks dont appear to have been used for sometime. and i think it has only ever been used for engineering vehicles under possesion. It would require some very specialist passenger vehicles able to run on br ac/hs1...

Reading to Bournemouth Ticket Help Please

The fastest route from Bournemouth to Eastleigh Station is via Junction 5 of the M27 past Southampton Airport Parkway. I doubt the buses will go on the M3.

Eurostar "may cap services" EES data congestion?

Isn't that what Ashford International and Calais Frethun were for? Both closed by Eurostar without any public consultation whatsoever.

    Heritage railways running cost

The answer is Yes. I'd be very surprised if the costs of the mainline railway haven't risen similarly. Most secondary lines on national rail must now be absolute basket cases financially.
