    May 2023 changes

Some discussion here https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/chiltern-may-2023-timetable-change-for-the-worse-or-better.246042/ It'll be interesting to see if/how they alter this until the Oxford issue is resolved.

Nuneham Viaduct shut - Didcot- Oxford

There are engineering works scheduled tonight between Aylesbury and Aylesbury Vale Parkway, not sure how that plays into things

Nuneham Viaduct shut - Didcot- Oxford

Whoops, was misunderstanding Traksy times, can see 1T55 stopping there now.

Nuneham Viaduct shut - Didcot- Oxford

You'd be seriously unimpressed if you were trying to get to Princes Risborough and sailed through ! Wonder why they didn't route services via platform 2 . Causes a bit of congestion but hardly matters at this point. A very painful time to be a commuter in this part of the world

Nuneham Viaduct: what alternative provision could be provided?

Chiltern have added the following message on their website Services to and from Oxford will be extremely busy until 9th June - GWR services are unable to run between Oxford and London Paddington, whilst the line between Didcot and Oxford is closed for urgent repairs to a bridge We’ve worked...

    National Express Coaches Discussion

My mother in law uses the Mereoak to Swansea service quite regularly and it always picks up a few people. Very handy for her as she prefers the luggage arrangement of a coach vs train so hopefully it continues!

Nuneham Viaduct: what alternative provision could be provided?

Yes - historically when the Met is closed south of HotH Chiltern would strengthen their services and run additional shuttles to Marylebone. No way that could be resourced today of course That said it has become their SOP to RRB their via Amersham service to free up resources for the mainline...

Nuneham Viaduct: what alternative provision could be provided?

My thought was more well done them for making it happen - they seem to have had a lot of issues with short formations in the peaks this week based on my observations / Twitter ! 1680873551 They are running some additional services this afternoon. I heard from a friend it was pretty chaotic at...

Nuneham Viaduct: what alternative provision could be provided?

Looks like a good showing from Chiltern today, plenty of cl68 workings , half hourly Birminghams with up to 8 carriages, Oxfords 5 or 6 carriages

Nuneham Viaduct shut - Didcot- Oxford

Short forms on the MYB-Oxfords tonight which is far from ideal I imagine!

Nuneham Viaduct shut - Didcot- Oxford

Short forms on Chiltern Railways Oxford-London this morning with a service reported full and standing . Can't think of any obvious solution to rolling stock shortage unless they could charter in something hauled or do something drastic like thin out the Met line services and run everything...

Chiltern May 2023 timetable change - for the worse or better?

They made a lot of adjustments to balance capacity across services in the peak so the pattern has ended up almost random over the years. The new timetable has a perfectly clockface timetable in the peak on the "mainline" for nearly all destinations - e.g. Oxford is 15/45 past, Beaconsfield is...

Chiltern May 2023 timetable change - for the worse or better?

Taking the Stoke Mandeville times it's looks like 3 x services that are removed (towards London anyway) - the 1153, 1253 and 1353. This doesn't seem hugely unreasonable , most people have travelled into London by then and it's during the working day for the local schools. A little inconvenient...

Poor platform allocating at Liverpool Lime Street

Very common scenario at Marylebone - my usual train is the 1730 to Aylesbury Vale Parkway. The 1721 to Banbury goes "on top". Occasionally there will be a problem on the "mainline" preventing it's departure but we're then trapped behind it when we could have gone, but it's unusual and usually it...

Chiltern May 2023 timetable change - for the worse or better?

Overall the recast looks OK for most of their core users who ultimately they should be focusing on. Passengers from Birmingham, Oxford and the Met line (Amersham onwards) do have alternatives in place. Plenty of reports daily of overcrowding so it'll be interesting to see how the timetable beds...

    Chiltern strike timetables

Also in the afternoon there is a period of hourly services ex-Marylebone. One gap is filled closer to Aylesbury by a short run from Great Missenden I've taken these in the afternoon and late at night frequently recently and they're reasonably busy but if they were half hourly they'd probably...

    Chiltern strike timetables

Currently one per hour off peak via Amersham, has been since COVID. Quite a pain especially late at night but in fairness the services aren't particularly busy I had half expected either more services to be "fast Amersham" to allow them to shorten them and/or a reduction in peak frequency but...

    Chiltern strike timetables

The whole day seems to be "fast" from Amersham if not Great Missenden as you say. Presumably planning short train lengths so want to leave the TfL stations for the Met line to handle

    May 2023 changes

If this is based off of the platform numbers at Marylebone then I don't think these are correct, e.g there are quite a few services currently showing as c oming into a platform a couple of minutes before a departure which wouldn't work in reality. The set currently goes back to Wembley lmd...

High Wycombe station closed, lines blocked, 14/3 14.30hrs

Yes seems like they've added them in now (though still not appearing in RTT) Doubt many are travelling anyway with no tube once you get to London
