Service recovery: Avanti / WCML 21/6/23

I sat next to a chap on Chiltern out of Marylebone and he'd come across from Euston around 5pm as although the odd train was moving by then he said it was absolute chaos, no info being given and he felt unsafe , was going back to Tring but his wife was collecting him from Wendover instead...

TRIVIA: Longest dwell time in the middle of a continuous service

We have the opposite in Aylesbury - there is a train from Aylesbury Vale Parkway that terminates in Aylesbury at 1803 and then a servicing starting at Aylesbury to London Marylebone at 1818. Whenever I've noticed it's been the same unit that operates both, even when the inbound from London has...

Do not travel warning from Chiltern!

They did have a couple of services with multiple paths - there was an VST originally to Hatton than was ran as a VST to Warwick Parkway later instead and a 7 car unadvertised express to Birmingham ran in it's later path. They also held a Birmingham service for a few minutes to align with the...

Do not travel warning from Chiltern!

To be fair to Chiltern they've put on multiple extras, got the hauled sets out etc. But a Wembley crowd from one of their stations (near enough) all wanting to board their trains home is pretty much impossible unless they'd cancelled all their services and had the fleet lined up waiting to go...

Do not travel warning from Chiltern!

With the match into extra time and still drawing this causes even more of a headache as there are less trains left to squeeze everyone into. A shame a few more units couldn't be spared to lengthen the last few trains Chiltern are saying they won't be able to carry everyone home, ticket...

Do not travel warning from Chiltern!

The problem for Chiltern is their Saturday services are busy anyway especially on a sunny half term Saturday and they're still carrying Oxford passengers which doesn't help. Looks like they've got most services from Birmingham running 6/7/8 cars with extras and even one "unadvertised" express...

Chiltern Loco Hauled Diagrams from May

Oh I hadn't realised! Ran as a loco hauled set today but only 5 carriages per RTT

Chiltern Loco Hauled Diagrams from May

1H12 0746 PRR-MYB is timetabled loco hauled as a regular working as well (comes up empty from Wembley depot)

Chiltern May 2023 timetable change - for the worse or better?

Just saw a Bucks Free Press report - total closure of Aylesbury either way for 10 days during August and then the branch will be closed until October

Chiltern May 2023 timetable change - for the worse or better?

I never tried walking it! There was a handy little shuttle bus when I was working there briefly Re: the flooding issues, I saw a tweet from the local MP that these will be resolved in August. Not sure if that is when the line will close for the HS2 works as well

Chiltern May 2023 timetable change - for the worse or better?

Long time ago now but in my experience the bus predominantly catered for passengers out of Aylesbury as far as Princes Risborough and then into High Wycombe from the villages outside it. There weren't too many people doing the whole route. Most employment in Aylesbury and in High Wycombe is...

Chiltern May 2023 timetable change - for the worse or better?

I did the commute for a few years during the bubble car days and it wasn't a huge number of people then and based on my admittedly rare excursions via this route at peak times then it seems the same or less now. Tickets are relatively cheap so it's not a flow that Chiltern / DfT are particularly...

Chiltern May 2023 timetable change - for the worse or better?

Thanks for the info! I saw it did run as a 5 car in the end. Journeycheck wasn't showing it 3 vs 5 earlier in the day. My friend is pleased that a silver set is making a temporary run as a 1737 High Wycombe and Princes Risborough only. She'll miss that when she's downgraded to a 165 !

Chiltern May 2023 timetable change - for the worse or better?

I'm quite surprised at some of the train lengths showing on RTT for evening peak out of MYB - the 1745 to Oxford only being 3 carriages sounds very cosy . 1715 - 1745 - 1815 - 1845 are 165 operated. Quite the downgrade for stations like Bicester Village from pre-COVID

Early train from Liverpool to Manchester Airport - 12th July

There is a National Express at 5.15am for the pricely sum of £3.50, I'd probably do that!

LNER fare rises and single leg pricing on many flows, from 11 June

+1 to this. I have the same from Aylesbury/Bicester and actually a couple of times my plans have changed and either I've gone back to a different station or the next day even which is easy to do when you don't already have a ticket! I've gotten into the habit now of buying each one seperately...

Just how much of GTR is ran solely on overtime on weekdays?

Chiltern have said they'll have a severely reduced service too. When it happened at Christmas it was (also?) an issue with depot staff being able to prep enough units for service

    Strike Timetable - Chiltern

They haven't run on ASLEF strike days in the past either, I assume that leaves too few drivers to run a viable service I have to get to Heathrow so have booked a cab!

    FA Cup Final charter

If the strike goes ahead it won't have much to slot in with !!

Why so crowded on the London Buses X26 at 5am?

Exactly that - plenty of people heading for early shifts. I lived in Kingston many years ago and just didn't bother with the X26 for my early shift as you couldn't board it (single decker back in those days)
