    December 2026 Timetable Change

Looks like "congestion" at Aylesbury - there is an ECS booked on platform 2 waiting to go to Aylesbury Vale Parkway, but it needs to wait for the inbound to reach 3 before it can leave and free up space for 2B05 to enter Aylesbury. 1C08 (and 1B47 MYB-AYS) is slightly of interest as usually...

    December 2026 Timetable Change

I had a closer look at the Chiltern changes and noticed a few more things about the evening peak No more TWTh timetable - it's consistent M-F (though lengths/allocations may differ still at least on a Fri I suspect) There are net 3 new Banbury services at 1711 , 1814 and 1841 . These are all...

    December 2026 Timetable Change

The very long connection is the same as timetabled now (and rather surprising, I used to commute to High Wycombe and this was a popular alternative to the buses, though these now have faster options). But this does seem like a nice opportunity to have fixed this. Though they may prefer to...

You can see it on RTT now (except Sat)

    December 2026 Timetable Change

Chiltern is up. Only had a quick look but it looks very interesting! Day time Stratford-upon-Avon is back is indeed back, though the return to London is rather early. There is a non stop to Bicester Village only in the morning. Looks like extra peak services to Banbury with Birminghams going...

    December 2026 Timetable Change

Would have thought so. The Greg Smith MP covering Haddenham & Thame Parkway and other stations in the vicinity and he was happy with what he heard https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1D3KzyX2dD/ So I would imagine there are also extra "local" services south of Banbury. Especially critical at peak...

Chiltern MK5s Starting 2026 (non speculative updates thread)

Not much Exploring going on last night - 1637 & 1737 ex MYB cancelled and the 1837 Stourbridge Junction was subbed for a 3 car 165 . Today's 0815 ex Birmingham swapped for the 165 too presumably to get it back to London. Not sure if they do not like the heat or just bad luck!

    Oh dear...misleading publicity from Chiltern!

Well then that's even more of a blunder!

    Oh dear...misleading publicity from Chiltern!

Edited the text already....how bizarre. Wonder how my other half will feel if I "just stay on" one evening to explore the sights of Banbury ! Though isn't it that you can't be PF'd for over distance?

Chiltern MK5s Starting 2026 (non speculative updates thread)

I saw a post from the Stourbridge Line User Group suggesting that more services will run to/from Stourbridge Junction from December https://www.facebook.com/100072089101871/posts/at-the-slug-public-meeting-yesterday-evening-chiltern-railways-confirmed-that-mo/961819762897652/ - though these may...

    Oval - Contactless - capping

Interesting. Thanks all! Seems like the capping calculations are more generous than I had understood I have been buying a separate network railcard discounted single home from Marylebone, but I will have to test out tapping in/out next week

Power Issues near Hemel Hempstead 07/05/2026

Hah - I thought the data was wonky, some of the platform data looked impossible too One of the challenges of Chiltern going "Explorer" Mk5 on the London-Birmingham corridor is a lack of flexibility to add more carriages in response to a situation like this

Power Issues near Hemel Hempstead 07/05/2026

https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:73225/2026-05-07/detailed#allox_id=0 Looks like Chiltern rustled up an extra of their 1837 and added coaches to later services too to keep people moving

    Oval - Contactless - capping

Where do you look up the fares from Aylesbury to the zone that they're using? As £20.45 - £8.90 = £11.55 , which I find no reference to when looking up on BRfares or TFL single fare finder (to a zone 2 station e.g. Finchley Road)

    Oval - Contactless - capping

hah! I was more asking if there is a source online where I can see what the caps and fares are in detail for Oval The journey yesterday was Aylesbury-Aldgate for £17.50 (pre-0630) - as expected Then I took 3 x LU Zone 1 journeys, the first capped at £2.95 and the others were FOC - total cost...

    Oval - Contactless - capping

It is reducing the charge of the first subsequent zone 1-1 LU journey I make . Which I thought was a little odd. But yesterday I made 3 x Zone 1-1 journey and the final 2 journeys were free

    Oval - Contactless - capping

But how deeply does it dig into it and do split journey etc My expectation on the above based on what I read is that the off-peak cap doesn't start until journeys after 0930 (or a bit earlier depending on origin). So essentially the first journey would be excluded from capping and I'd only hit...

    Oval - Contactless - capping

I'm trying to understand how this works and I cannot seem to find a complete picture of Oval fares calculations online I take an NR journey from an Oval contactless-only station before 0630 and continue to a Zone 1 LU station in a single journey Then travel around zone 1 LU off peak afterwards...

Services which terminate one station beyond the much better known location (Trivia)

A twist in the other direction is the morning Kings Sutton - Marylebone service (train comes straight off of Banbury depot, IIRC used to come into service at Bicester)

    Marylebone Dual Boarding

There aren't any booked departures at Marylebone anymore that require dual boarding. Certainly on the services I use there aren't any particularly tight turnarounds either. The "clock face" timetable in peaks seemed to have been written to avoid these situations that both occured pre pandemic...
