    Tfl letter

It is possible that the OP was the subject of a targeted interception. TfL may have had details of their multiple "exits" from their regular start station(s), and multiple exits from their finish station(s) at regular times, may have used CCTV to help them identify them to meet them on the 16...

Missed last connection at Chester due to poor information at Euston

The way Avanti Delay Repay web site works is such that you insert your intended itinerary and supporting tickets and bookings, and state which length of delay you are claiming for. They will look at the train running data and decide what to offer you. If this seems OK to you, great. If not, then...

Services which terminate one station beyond the much better known location (Trivia)

Shoeburyness (Southend stations). There's nothing at Shoeburyness.

    Spurious counted places reservations.

I understand that because there was a compulsory reservable leg in my quoted trips, the journey planner decided to allocate counted places on the other reservable trains. I appreciate the explanation. Maybe next time I do something like Burscough to Lancaster, where the reservation isn't...

    Spurious counted places reservations.

Is it possible to buy online walk up tickets without reservations, even if trains are allegedly reservable? For example could I buy off peak return Southport to Wigan without being issued counted place reservation? After all, I can travel on any off peak train.

    Spurious counted places reservations.

On two of my recent trips involving multiple legs, I have been issued with counted places reservations on connecting services even though the ticket was an Off Peak Return. In these cases there has been a reservable Avanti leg to the journey. The tickets were booked through the forum web site...

    Why I avoid e-tickets

I still have a preference for CCSTs. One reason for this is that my wife does not have a smartphone. The other day my wife and I made a round trip from Burscough to Lancaster, tickets booked on the forum's ticketing site. Tickets were off peak day returns. To avoid the risk that the TVM at...

Forum ticket site not handling multiple passengers on Senior Railcard.

The issue is fixed and I will probably buy the tickets online using the forum ticket site, but as they are walk-up off-peak day returns, with no splits, there is no advantage in buying in advance, I can buy them on the day of travel.

Forum ticket site not handling multiple passengers on Senior Railcard.

Great. I have forwarded the F&F itinerary details to my daughter for her Leeds to Gatwick (and back) in June. The Senior Railcard fares for my wife and I are walk-up fares next week. Burscough Bridge to Lancaster day return. I will either buy them from the machine on the day, or order them for...

Forum ticket site not handling multiple passengers on Senior Railcard.

That bug seems fixed, but now I can't seem to remove the chosen railcard from a search to run a comparison of with/without railcard. I'm trying to plan a different trip for 2 adults an one child. I've done it by closing the site and starting from scratch, which is revealing some interesting...

Forum ticket site not handling multiple passengers on Senior Railcard.

A week or so ago I used the forum's ticketing site to buy tickets for 2 adults, both with senior railcards. I received the warning that two railcards were required for travel, and the tickets were issued. Now I am trying for another pair of tickets for same passengers, but the ticketing site...

Staff discretion to open doors at unscheduled station stops

It was full and standing, but everyone who wanted to board was able to. At Leicester some people sprinted to catch the 1612 departure to STP but my wife and I, Senior Railcard holders, waited for the 1630 nonstop service which had plenty of space.

Staff discretion to open doors at unscheduled station stops

I was also affected by Thursday’S chaos on WCML. 1343 from Liverpool came to stand at Nuneaton at 1505. About 1520 the train manager announced that the doors were unlocked, and recommended passengers for London continue via Leicester, which several hundred did, including me. This struck me as...

    Cross London during tube strike

In this case, the one-way flow system introduced for crowd control meant that the escalators were up-only and the stairs were closed, hence the walk through the streets to the other entrance. But this walk did not further delay the journey which was already running 90 minutes late. The streets...

What actually happened. . Departed Southport 12:21 (one train earlier than itinerary) (MerseyRail) . Walked from Liverpool Central to Liverpool Lime Street . Departed Liverpool Lime Street 13:43 on time. (Avanti) . Came to a Stand at Nuneaton 15:05 (unscheduled stop) Avanti service terminated...

    Cross London during tube strike

I can still remember some old DMUs ticking over in the platforms at Moorgate. No idea where they had come from or where they were going. Getting off topic now.

    Cross London during tube strike

I really appreciate all the good advice. I think I will do the St. Pancras -> Farringdon -> Stratford route. Have walked Euston to St. P before. In the old days (pre-Crossrail), when I lived in Billericay, the Euston to Liverpool Street route was always walk to Euston Square then Circle to...

    Cross London during tube strike

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions. The itinerary outbound on 23rd is dep Southport 1236 dep Lime Street 1343 arr Euston 1604. after that any reasonable route to Billericay, no time pressure. I will seriously look at the walk to St. Pancras then Thameslink to Farringdon for Lizzie line...
