As others have said, a good effort by Northern. Probably the quickest service from Manchester to Southport for a long time. Example today.
Depart Manchester Vic 0855 arrive Southport 1005 - 70 minutes. (Non-stop Wigan to Southport) Compare next one, depart MCV 0909 arrive SOP 1030 - 81 minutes.
Great discussion. I understand better now. So the departure board at Southport will show alternating Hunts Cross & Hillside, so ordinary mortals won't board the golf special, something similar for northbound trains at Liverpool Central but with the Ormskirk and Headbolt Lane trains also in the...
Next week the Open Golf tournament is taking place at Royal Birkdale, to which the nearest MerseyRail station is Hillside.
MerseyRail will be running a 6tph service on the Southport line.
Normal mortals probably well advised to stay away.
One thing is puzzling me. Why are the "extra" trains...
Southport is bristling with AA signs pointing to all parking zones, and to P+R locations. I have seen at least one for coaches.
There is a dedicated travel planning web site
https://www.theopen.com/tickets-and-hospitality/getting-there
There is definitely a P+R in Gorsuch Lane Scarisbrick, with...
They took the 11.10 and are now in Stevenage, looking to catch the 09.30 from there to Gatwick tomorrow morning. Which ran on time today. As my daughter's train travel consultant, having worked out the original itinerary, I really appreciate the helpful advice here, and so do they.
They have opted to travel to Stevenage tomorrow (24th) on the LNER ticket dated 25th, stay at a hotel there and then use the Thameslink ticket on 25th early in the day to get onward to Gatwick. I will check times for them tomorrow. At the moment the LNER web site is showing an hourly service...
I looked again, and the flight is at 13.50. I planned it for an 11.14 arrival. There was contingency for late arrival at Stevenage if missing the 10.01 departure to catch the 10:17 from Stevenage arrive Gatwick 11.46 or the 10:31 from Stevenage arrive Gatwick 11.44. Still two hours before the...
Thank you for all your help. As LNER are saying tickets for 25th are valid on 24th I'll recommend they travel on the Wednesday afternoon and find somewhere to stay.
My daughter with her husband and child have tickets on 08:10 LNER Leeds to Stevenage then change to Thameslink depart 10.01 to arrive Gatwick 11.14.
Flight is at about 1 o'clock.
LNER have issued a "do not travel" advice.
What might be a sensible plan?
There is a scheduled connection by...
To address the timing using the suggested route via Clapham Junction. Looks like the 07.10 departure from Witley, change at Guildford (dep. 07.34) arrive CLJ 08.28, then dep. there at 08.38 arrive Victoria 08.45.
Much better in reverse. Depart Victoria 18.05, arrive CLJ 18.11. Dep there 18.22...
In one sentence you say "I've never done this before", and in another you say "I always buy a ticket after boarding".
It is a criminal offence to get on a train without having in your possession a ticket for the entire journey you are about to make.
But the only issue here is whether on this...
The wording of the letter is "on Avanti West Coast". Isn't this because the OP was stopped on Crewe station which is administered by Avanti West Coast? It does not allege that he travelled on an Avanti train. Avanti are dealing with it because they staff Crewe Station. The sad fact is that the...
I have travelled on e-tickets from Southport in the past. I recall when Northern had a sale on, and they weren't offering to fulfil them as paper. Just showed them at the barrier. But I usually opt for CCSTs and collect them from the MerseyRail ticket desk.
As already advised. The answer to the original question is yes. It might not suit the OP to depart Kenilworth by train at 09.07 then wait 25 minutes at Leamington Spa. There may be a convenient bus which will get to Leamington Spa nearer to the time of the train to Oxford. The question of what...
I thought it was something to do with the departure time from London. I know when a bunch of us went to York we went on the 10.00 service ex King's Cross.
I see from my records that when we went to Portsmouth (for the Dockyard) in 2013 we took the 8.37 from Billericay and the 10.02 from...
When I first had a Senior RailCard I lived in the Network South East area, and assumed that the off-peak validity restriction applied to such cards everywhere. Huge surprise when I moved out of that area and discovered the restriction did not apply. But, even when I was in the south east, I...
Pardon my curiosity, but did you catch the wrong train at Leeds? On 29 May there was a 2015 TPE departure to Manchester but there was also a 2015 XC departure to Bristol Temple Meads, which with a change at Birmingham New Street would have got you to Wolverhampton at 22.42. Or was it always your...
