There seems to be a resistance in the UK to triple tracking as a capacity upgrade from double track. Many lines in the US with capacity issues seems to have been triple tracked in the last few years.
Obviously quadruple track has a higher capacity again, but costs more, and often there seems...
EMT have recently replaced the signs and benches at Sheffield station.
Can anyone tell me:
A: the point?
B: why they used such an ungainly typeface and why they couldn't stick to one font size for similar signs?
C: why they left one MML sign?
If the train you are booked on is too full to get on, I presume you would be allowed to catch the next one? And similarly if the train you were going to catch to catch the reserved train was too full the same would apply?
My sister is coming to visit (Chesterfield) next Friday and then on the Saturday going to Huddersfield before going home (Norwich) on the Sunday. I was wondering if you ticketing gurus could advise on the best ticket/s to purchase?

I was at Sheffield yesterday waiting to catch the 17:05 Northern service to Nottingham. When I got to the platform at about 17:00 it was the next train on platform 6A and on time. The board then changed to the late running 16:54 XC service to Plymouth (or somewhere down that way)...
Am I right in thinking that on-train staff can't issue seasons (monthly or longer)? If so how do you buy a season between two unmanned stations? Even if they have machines they can't issue seasons either. The rules say you must buy a ticket at the first available opportunity but you might not...
