Travelling to Morecambe yesterday I noticed the 158 received several swipes from overhanging trees north of Skipton.
The returning 158 had the carriage windows open, presumably the air con not working. Shortly after Carnforth there was more swiping but this time some leaves landed on the table...

Batley Lad thanks for posting the Video.
Unfortunately the section on Mirfield shows the true awfulness of what is being provided for passengers. Thus a cover is...
Reading these forums and railway magazines it is clear that several TOCs are going through the procurement process.
This could presumably end up with a plethora of different designs from different manufacturers. Continuing the mess privatisation has left.
I would suggest this is undesirable and...
Back in the 60's BR had a problem with the brake force of diesel locos restricting loads that could be hauled. The solution was to create brake tenders. These were basically cut down and shortened old carriages filled with concrete. Coupling these to the diesels provided more braking capability...
Is someone converting the Sectional Appendix into a Sat Nav format?
I downloaded an App for my phone which is intriguing me.
The App is called Speedometer and purports to show how fast you are travelling. I thought it might be interesting if cycling or ever travelling by bus/train/plane etc...
I went into Leeds from my local station today. To meet some former colleagues for lunch. The station is unstaffed and has one ticket machine. Although arriving in good time I was unable to access the machine as the woman using it was unfamiliar but was determined to use it. A queue had built up...

The first photo shows the westbound platform as seen from street level ie the A643 Aka Churwell Hill
The second and third are general shots of the site works...
The Bradford Telegraph and Argos reports that " A “Park and rail” scheme that would see a new multi storey car park built at Steeton and Silsden Train Station will cost over £750,000 more than expected, and will not be ready until 14 months after the original completion date. "...
My local station on the Wharfedale line is normally unstaffed. Arriving back on a train from Leeds this afternoon the entrances were manned by uniformed ticket inspection staff. I was one of the first to the cordon, showed my ticket, and walked past. There were three staff, two men and a woman...
Mod Note: Posts #1 - #17 were originally in this thread.
Is it known if the CAF 331's for Northern can run in multiple with the CAF 195's for Northern? I was thinking of the original Bournemouth line electrification where practically everything could be coupled together. Thus could you run a...
A recent report by the Taxpayers Alliance on highly paid Quangocrats includes the following
The phrase "Egregious largesse" is new to me but perhaps this helps explain the organisational attitude to cost control
The full paper is here-...
I travelled on the 1C72 10.44 Preston to Windermere today. This is formed by a 153 coupled to a 156. It seemed to run flat out all the way to Oxenholme.
The schedule is 35.5 minutes for the 40 miles 6 chains which I make to be almost 68 mph. I couldn't think of any other 153 working at such a...
