Is someone converting the Sectional Appendix into a Sat Nav format?
I downloaded an App for my phone which is intriguing me.
The App is called Speedometer and purports to show how fast you are travelling. I thought it might be interesting if cycling or ever travelling by bus/train/plane etc. The App doesn’t give directions, show a map or do anything that a full-blown Sat Nav doesn’t do better-but it was free and I could delete at any time.
I downloaded it some months ago and promptly forgot about it. However, I was using my phone on a Wharfedale line train the other week, noticed the App and turned it on. It not only shows your speed but also (presumably using data from other databases) the name of the street you are on, the speed limit and other sundries such as temperature, compass direction etc. At first, I was simply amused sitting on a train seeing the names of the streets we were passing and the 30 or 40 mph limits. However, I was suddenly surprised to see the street name change to “Airedale and Wharfedale lines” and the speed limit become 90mph. This changed a few times as we approached Leeds and the “street” to “Harrogate Line” and also “Chesterfield (Tapton jn.) to Colne”.
I have never heard of anything like this before, hence my opening question.
