Anytime Single Leuchars to Falkirk same price as Anytime Return ?

Similar pricing for Cupar to/from Larbert. Does seem unusual that the Anytime Single & Anytime Return are the same price, though.

    24th August: Metroland

Wasn't that what was originally planned to be the Home Counties alternative to the Eiffel Tower? Never actually finished and subsequently razed to the ground before the site was in due course re-purposed as the Empire Stadium (= Wembley Stadium).

    Football

Motherwell didn't exactly set the heather on fire against Sport Club Freiburg in the UEFA Conference League. Lost 1-3 at home last week and 1-4 away tonight (= 2-7 defeat on aggregate).

    Reported for fraud

Do train guards actually issue Penalty Fares? Possibly only Revenue Protection staff can do that. Can someone confirm?

Time validity with split rover/season and train not calling at split

Concur with @SaltAndVinegar. Take it travelling on the 0816 TPE (Haymarket to Carlisle and beyond) service, arriving Carlisle 0931, doesn't suit? Or the 0745 TPE (Glasgow Central to Carlisle and beyond, arriving 0922). They both call at Lockerbie. Or the 0736 Avanti (Glasgow Central to Carlisle...

    Reported for fraud

Might not come to that, but it's a potential risk of using an Advance Single ticket other than on the booked train. In the circumstances you describe, they're not a fully flexible ticket.

    Reported for fraud

@wheeley555 . Welcome to the forum. Did you have a booked train only Advance Single from Meadowhall to Sheffield? They're cheaper than the fully flexible £4.20 Anytime Day Single, but the trade off is that you have to travel on the booked train, otherwise your ticket is likely invalid. If you'd...

Senior Railcard validity: getting a definitive answer

@NewcourtSenior. Welcome to the forum. Good question! So, how does this work for a local journey such as Newcourt to/from Exeter Central if a Senior Railcard holder is wishing to claim Senior Railcard discount? For this flow, there only seem to be Anytime Day Singles (and Returns) and Evening...

Companies That You Expect to Disappear Soon

Interesting! 'Trackside' = Railway Preservation monthly magazine? So, how does their Operation 'Mag Save' work? Potential savings?

Wrong Ticket Sold on board Greater Anglia train?

So, what should an intending traveller do in such circumstances?

Old Street via King's cross using London Terminals ticket

Would a Cambridge to London Terminals ticket definitely work the (LU) barriers on the Northern line at both Kings Cross St Pancras and at Old Street? (It wouldn't have a ✠ Maltese Cross symbol on it). Also, would the ticket have to be issued in CCST format?

Wrong Ticket Sold on board Greater Anglia train?

No ticket office nowadays at Sudbury Suffolk. It's a basic station.

Wrong Ticket Sold on board Greater Anglia train?

Good point. What are the ticketing facilities these days at Sudbury Suffolk? A TVM, certainly. Does it take cash, however? (Not sure!)

Why is Edge Hill closed on Sundays?

You're probably not wrong. However, can see the media headlines, already... "Rail forum calls for closure of 196 year old local station".

Wrong Ticket Sold on board Greater Anglia train?

Super Off Peak Day Returns for local journeys in that area, such as Sudbury Suffolk to/from Marks Tey (or to/from Colchester / Colchester Town) would only be valid (midweek) for journeys starting after 11:59, so wouldn't be valid on the 11:26 departure from Sudbury (Suffolk) or, indeed, earlier...

Why doesn't Ripon have a train line towards Harrogate or York?

There have been several recent proposals to re-open the former railway line between Harrogate and Ripon (and then onwards to Northallerton). Was discussed here, amongst other places... https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/if-ripon-reopened-should-it-be-single-or-double-track.216709/#post-5105055

    Off peak question

@trigpoint. Are you essentially looking at catching the 0818 TfW from Wem to Crewe (arrive 0859) and then waiting at Crewe for the 0955 Avanti from Crewe to London Euston (arrive 1135)? The journey made with a £103.80 (route "via Crewe") Off Peak Return?

    Lumo's poor service in general

Carriage letters the wrong way round, perhaps? So, coach 'A' at the front, when it should perhaps be at the back. Or vice-versa.
