If anyone thinks the UK is bad for people playing music/videos on their phones without speakers, take a trip to Beijing. Everywhere you go whether it’s train/Hotel/Bar/Restaurant or any place where the public are, there is a symphony of tinny sounds coming from phones. Literally everyone is...
Out of interest. What is ignorant about it?
It’s no concern of yours or anyone else’s what they are doing if they aren’t disturbing you. Would you have been so bothered if they were reading a book? Or would you prefer them just to stare out of the window for the whole journey?
I don’t understand the issue of people looking at their phones or tablets/laptops instead of looking out of windows. How do you know some weren’t looking out before you scanned round the train. It’s no big deal how others are passing their time on a possible long journey. As long as they’re not...
Northwirrallines was the Day Saver. And still can be sold via ticket machines at Chester last time I tried a few weeks back. Both Day Saver and Saveaway are available from ticket office
Worth noting that Saveaways can’t be purchased from Merseyrail ticket machines so those south of Hooton have...
Shunt batteries ok for moving and empty train around the depot but how will they cope with moving a full train load of passengers? Do they have permission to use them out side of the depot?
Not sure of the exact location but there having been gaping incidents around that location before...
The forecourts I use these days with Pay at Pump accept contactless with Google and Apple Pay symbols on them so guess there isn’t an issue in having ones phone present when it comes to paying out some money
It was a track fault between Hamilton Sq & James Street and then later between Sandhills & Southport. Seems to happen way too often these days as do many other infrastructure issues around the network.
Seem much quicker than a few years back. Maybe a bit more forgiving now or people have got used to them somewhat. Last year joined what looked like a horrendous queue of a few hundred people for passport control at Manchester Airport but was through in 15 mins. The actual check in the E-Gates...
I usually find we end up sat waiting for right time departure with guard stood on step looking at their watch. Find also, the last train of the night can easily leave last few stops a couple of minutes early. Not quite the rapid pace of the last trains of the night on the Madrid Metro where you...
Sadly. Merseyrail falling apart during icy weather is nothing new. It hasn’t been uncommon over the last 10 years or so during such weather to see services not starting until late morning or broken down train littering the network as they can’t draw current from the third rail or welded...
See this quite often on Merseyrail with Carlisle security staff.
Travelling Strasbourg to Offenburg a couple of weeks ago there were loads of people playing stuff on their phones out load. Same with next journey from Offenburg to Ringshiem but at least this train was much lighter loaded. On...
Noted a couple of weeks ago that tickets ordered on line can now be collected from Merseyrail tickets machines at Ellesmere Port, Overpool and Little Sutton (assume Bache & Capenhurst are same too. Not sure when this was implemented.
I guess quite handy pushing us in to the early 21st century...
A few weeks ago there were RPIs at Ellesmere Port directing people to the nearest cashpoint machine advising that you will be 'fined' if you board train without a ticket if you don't do as directed. Nearest machine being at the Shell Garage and roughly 10 min round trip so would end up missing...
Card readers seem to have been out of action for about 2 months now.
I note that contactless payment has been added to the TVM's, don't know if it's linked to that or not as I have only recently noticed them. All card terminals just show offline.
Merseyrail responded to a comment on Twitter...
As long you are are not using the Merseyrail Area G daysaver at £3.80, normal Day Saver or Saveaway ticket to travel that route then Chester to Ellesmere Port via Helsby is fine.
I could guess that the ticket office staff at Chester thought the route wasn't valid as they tend to sell the...
