Welsh Minister explains why Cambrian is not hourly

I don't have any more details than that but it's come from two separate sources, one of which is ATW.

Welsh Minister explains why Cambrian is not hourly

As of October, the timetable will be tightened slightly, and line speeds increased between Mach and Aber, and Salop to Newtown, and a few points in between.

Cambrian Six Car DMU's Scuppered by Network Rail metal fencing

I have a feeling that this is a smokescreen for the real excuse for the non-introduction of 6-car 158s, whatever that may be.

    Spitfire: The Prisoner

Nothing to do with Barmouth bridge and everything to do with the loop at Porthmadog and the fact the LHCS timing trial fouled the crossing. Possibility that ATW would have to modify their timetable as a one-off basis in order to allow railtours longer than 6 coaches to pass there. There's...

Welsh Assembly Government still planning Cambrian hourly for 2011

I had this tweet in Welsh from Elin Jones, the Plaid Cymru AM, this evening: "The work has been done to permit passing places (loops) and Ieuan Wyn Jones put money in the budget to finance hourly trains, this year."

    Cambrian problems

Where was this? It would only be an ERTMS issue of it was at Sutton Bridge Junction or points west thereof.

    Cambrian problems

Not a good day for the railway today. First off, 97303 was supposed to be visiting TnT with 304 on the 1Q13 Derby RTC to Aberystwyth & Mach, except 303's ERTMS played up again at Shrewsbury, so it had to be ripped off. 302 was started up on Coleham, but wasn't attached, and was eventually shut...

    ATW 158, 2nd refurb train

From a pal of mine: "158838 the 2nd to be 'refurbed' on its way to Canton running 40 late due to running on one engine only. Well that's a good start!"

    ERTMS Class 97`s (37)

Nope, both are still there. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Just been sent this, so it looks it's too late to get the tamper to Porthmadog: "about 400 yds. of track was removed at Minffordd Quarry last night."

    ERTMS Class 97`s (37)

97302 was to drag a tamper to Porthmadog this morning. It only got as far as Welshpool before the GSM-R inside it went kaput, and it and the tamper had to be dumped in the siding. The GSM-R kit inside 304 on Coleham is similarly kaput. 303 will have to come down from Crewe at some point to...

Arriva 158 Refurbishment (combination of 3 threads)

Yes, 6 of those are mine, as per my Flickr site. That ATW pic of it outside Canton is rather nice.

    Shrewsbury To Aberwystwyth/Porthmadog

That was down to the 1J11, 10.09 off Brum International. It was more or less on time as far as Sutton Bridge Junction, then somehow lost 50 minutes between there and Welshpool. It left there 12:45 vice 11:49, and was terminated at Mach I think.

Welsh Assembly Government still planning Cambrian hourly for 2011

Coming back to the Cambrian, and the Welshpool to Fron Jct double track, I was given some gen today that the Down line was nearly used this afternoon by a passenger train, possibly its first use? However, it wasn't used in the end due to a points failure at Welshpool.

Arriva 158 Refurbishment (combination of 3 threads)

My photos of 840 are now online, after being embargoed until Railway Herald came out. http://www.flickr.com/photos/welsh_snapper/sets/72157626505582144/ As well as the seats, photos of vestibule ends, cycle space, both toilets, luggage racks, and interior of both cabs. I also photographed...

Welsh Assembly Government still planning Cambrian hourly for 2011

I've been given some gen tonight that a couple of 97s may be coming down a week on Thursday to run up and down the Down line south of Welshpool to bed it in. Even if it's booked to run, it still may not do, as we've been discovering.

Welsh Assembly Government still planning Cambrian hourly for 2011

NR at Mach will know about it. I don't know about the rest of the empire. There's still no word about when the Down line on the Welshpool loop will be used. NR want it to "bed in" apparently, but without trains using it.

Welsh Assembly Government still planning Cambrian hourly for 2011

October this year is what an ATW driver I know has been told will be the start date of some sort of hourly service.

    FreightLocate Demo Service now available

Yes, they're even showing a 3S03 leaving Wigan tomorrow morning, but you'll have a 6 month wait to see it. All FL does is list all the paths in what's thought to be TRUST, and only a fraction of those paths will actually be used. But they don't say which. You can find this info out by...

    Aber hourly service,warning.

There were firm rumours only a few years ago that Westbury would regain a loop, and Sutton Bridge Jct to Hookagate would also be re-doubled. Evidently nothing came of it. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- Yebut, nobut. A good friend of mine is a snapper, like his father, and his...
