I mean, at least in future, you assume trains would have air-con so it would actually be quite nice to jump on the Bakerloo.
But definitely, of all the places to get a station on the WCML south of Harrow, it would have to be Willesden Junction. That absolute web of connectivity there, as well...
I don't believe in buses doing the 'heavy lifting' in most cases, but it doesn't to me seem likely that a Calder Valley to Huddersfield service would be a massive benefit, nor move lots of people (except people who would be connecting and could connect elsewhere).
Comfort and speed. Harrow & Wealdstone to Baker Street (using that as a comparable 'North side of Zone 1 interchange') is 34 minutes. Harrow to Euston is only 12 minutes when the path is 'clean'.
In my much younger years I used to go from South East London to Harrow to have a look at the...
If you are running 32tph.
8tph (one every 7.5 minutes) goes to Watford.
Flight 4tph Stonebridge, and 4tph Queens Park, in behind.
Flight 8tph Willesden in behind that.
Then 8tph Harrow behind that.
You will have created, in that sense, the necessary time gap of 3.5 minutes to run a unit ECS...
A Leeds - Bradford - Halifax - Huddersfield 'shuttle' makes perfect sense, especially if it's half-hourly, and supplements the half-hourly Leeds - Bradford - Rochdale - Manchester (- Chester etc.).
If you ran the Blackpool - Leeds (it may not have to go to York), and a supplementary Preston -...
I think Huddersfield to Bradford half-hourly is entirely sensible. Actually, it's probably absolutely vital to maintaining a good service across a wider area. Not sure why Huddersfield to Rochdale would be that critical, given it's in a totally different county and, on first glance, would me so...
And if you have to somehow bring Met Line trains (eventually) into Watford Junction, you'll need a system to allow that CityFlo (or whatever their signalling system is called) to operate in Watford Junction. And with that, you would assume Bakerloo Line new trains will be at least pre-fitted...
I think the existence of Mk3 generator coaches for Nightstar would suggest that yes, there were serious proposals...

When originally proposed in 1992, the service pattern was to be as follows:[4]
London services
London to and from Amsterdam and...
Euston to Queens Park shuttle on 710s, allowing more to be released for other improvements elsewhere (e.g. Chingford, Enfield). That makes sense - it would result in a segregation (bar moving units during mornings and evenings to and from the depot at Willesden).
In the event that you are...
I was mainly drawing a comparison between Bradford and Leeds. That is to say, one is 'on a limb' as far as rail routes go, and the other is slap bang on loads of them, so it ends up being a natural place to connect. Bath to Birmingham, for example, is not practical as a direct XC journey.
Article.
Interesting that it runs Monday to Thursday. Is that the first such example of a proper change to timetabling principles to not be "SX" but instead to be pandering more to the ****s? (Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays).
If the Bakerloo line is massively upgraded with new trains, and those services run more often, people will just change their habits. Much the same as I'm sure a few people jump on the first train they see which is a 378 / 710 at somewhere like Harlesden, knowing they'll change at Queens Park to...
Bradford is next door to Leeds. Leeds has lots of connectivity, and the nature of the railway geography means it's easiest to just send people to Leeds and then go on from there.
I'm trying to think of comparisons, but Bath / Bristol, Wolves / Birmingham and maybe Sunderland / Newcastle all...
Absolutely agree. Bakerloo line only north of Queens Park, and a major interchange at Willesden Junction specifically designed (at least for 'stopping' trains that run on the slows) to then provide an out-of-London interchange for Old Oak Common and such.
Rare agree, no idea why you'd go to Northampton. Coventry made some sense, as it is a major city. But it would still have been a bit of a nightmare unless they were going to use the Sidings off the end of Platform 4 towards Kenilworth to recirculate.
I doubt it, but it would be bloody better than the existing shambles of retaining 170s on XC when you could amend things and make XC a 22x only operator.
Or have a serious think about everything that runs throughout the whole area, including XC, WMT Liverpool, Avanti and whatever else, and ascertain if 2tph need to go via Tame Bridge as a 'sacrifice' to make the core route via Coseley a bit better. But, in the round, there's a lot of trains and...
But the fleet differences are such that Harrogate makes sense for 800s, and Bradford and the like makes sense with 801s. The other critical difference, of course, is the fact that you're in much less congested space west of Leeds on the Harrogate side as far as Armley Jn, so it's alright. You...
