Why I believe battery powered trains aren’t the answer

Source for these plans that are so definite for the line to turn over to Merseyrail and use 777s?

    Varamis Rail Class 321s & 325s”

Some of their 321s are apparently off for scrap next week. Looks like it might be all over.

Windsor, Henley and, to be fair, Greenford can all be a standard 3 car unit. Even Bourne End to Maidenhead can. The only thing that might need to change is Bourne End to Marlow and I would just stick a Parry People Mover on that, sever the branch and put it in a glorified garden shed for...

On this rare occasion I discounted them as the current franchise holder / operator (don't care what they're called now) seems dead certain that they've bought the D Stock technology and that's the solution for the Branches. Good luck to them, even if I'm sure its going to be failure. 1752755706...

Where will the political will be to procure trains with three or four traction types, which are inefficient due to the increased weight, and then require all this additional infrastructure spend for them to do things like charging? Answer: there won't be any. Diesel will quietly be allowed to...

Got everything crossed for these seats. Extremely comfortable, and very suitable for Marylebone to Moor Street, Penzance to Cardiff, or Waterloo to Exeter.

Local services in the Huddersfield area post TRU

So, to be unpopular, they don't appear to be that important? If they're only busy south of Todmorden, it doesn't matter if they come from the Hebden Bridge or Burnley directions.

Sounds like it won't therefore get done. This is why diesel will keep going - cost, time, investment, new trains. It never stacks up because no government (secretly) ever wants to spend money on trains.

Well it sounds to me that diesel, electric and more are all so dangerous that we should close depots and stop running trains in entirety.

I was aware that when I made the previous post you'd probably elect to go with "I'm not replying to you any further" or similar, as you haven't got the ability to verbalise with fact.

You shall create for us a list, that shows which routes are currently diesel, but which will be electrified (and whether that's AC or DC) between now and 2065. And then a list of the ones which will manage to struggle on with a sort of battery system, as you believe is plausible. Once you've...

I really hope we haven't got to do our entire traction policy on "We can improve safety on depots by running stuff on batteries so lets have everything as battery over the whole network". Nonsensical. Can't see any GWR or SWR depots where you'd maintain these (Salisbury, St Phil's, Laira etc.)...
