    Worst Platform

Far as I know is Byfleet and New Haw on the Up ......... unless you have/know of a worse one? The levels are up and down all over the place and it looks like it has suffered from subsidence in several places (at least 7 ! ). I'm surprised it is allowed to be legally used.

    Why?

On Earth, or any other planetary body, would anyone want to take a picture of a Disastro. I must have had 6 or 7 people taking pictures today in different locations Soton - Wloo (10 car 444) Wloo - Pompey via Eastleigh (12 car 450)

    Most beautiful Station

Which - in your opinion - is the most beautiful station? I've never been there, but to my mind Wemyss Bay is certainly a contender for the most beautiful and most interesting. An old Caledonian Railway Station too.

    Failures/problems

Would it be of any interest if we started recording failures/problems on here? I had a full brake application - 100% as indicated on the brake gauge (Disastros have percentages rather than Bars or lbs per sq'inch) doing 80mph approaching Liss Common level crossing. No TPWS activity and...

    Pig Replacements?

Just reading in Modern Railways about The Inter City Express program...... Quote 'This does bring hidden upsides. South West Trains commuters still bewailing the loss of the Class 442 can take comfort in a requirement in the IEP technical specification for a 750 DC version.' Hmm -...

    Routes that should be re-opened

Even when I was little I had a sadness when passing over old disused railway lines on the road. It's as if they had a ghost. What line would you like to see rebuilt? I think for me it would be the Somerst & Dorset. A great diversionary route connecting some very nice towns and villages...

Am I driving the oldest .....

Stock in mainland Britain later today? I'm on the Lymmy Branch driving 63 stock. I know the IOW stuff is way older but I don't think there is anything else on the mainland rail network. Unless it's a heritage bubble car or something?

    Railway Rules

For those of you who haven't seen them before - these are the rules that we have to learn (applicable by grade in the margins). http://www.rgsonline.co.uk/rail/rule_modules.html Bit heavy going at times but easier than the rule book when I started nearly 20 years ago e.g. : - "Make sure...

    Are these?

Stored slammers? I was trundling around Google Earth and followed the line under the Severn Tunnel - haven't travelled that route yet - when I found these on t'other side of the Severn. There're some more all around the site and some with what looks like a couple of locos attached...

    Rebuild The Kestrel

You've all probably heard of the Tornado project and 'Lazurus' locos bought back from the dead. Locos that were all scrapped and none preserved - but replicas being built. I was pondering this one about 6 months ago. Wouldn't it be great to rebuild a Kestrel? I imagine that you could use a...

    CSR Radio / NRN

Here on the Southern we have CSR (Cab Secure Radio) which is pretty good most of the time and means you don't have to jump down onto the ballast in the pouring rain to contact the signalman. When we went onto that backward region - GWR (God where's Reading?) - we had to use NRN - which is...

    Picture of 66750 & 66751 newly arrived

Picture of 66750 & 66751 newly arrived  Much better than the crap B&Q garden sheds we have over here normally. These are the French equivalent of our class 47 - lovely looking locos. Love to see one preserved over here.

    Why?

Is it that trains in this country still have to have yellow blobs on the front when they have blinding floodlights that completely dazzle you anyway? About time the reg's were re-written. :angryfir:

    Best Railway Mag?

What in your opinion - is the best railway magazine? I prefer The Railway Magazine Myself as it has a broad mix of articles including kettles. Rail is rather cheap and nasty (or expensive and nasty considering the price). If you don't do it already - why don't you do what some of the...
