    Flying Scotsman tour 4 Nov

Looks from Realtimetrains/opentraintimes like it's currently at Southall WCR, due to run up to Norwich via ECML and Cambridge on Friday (tomorrow) afternoon as 5Z59: http://www.opentraintimes.com/schedule/U55286/2017-11-10 Edit: I think I have been fooled - apparently this schedule is just the...

RDG trial/Budget announcement: 26-30 Railcard from Spring 2018

Is it conceivable that the loss of revenue from the card being used could be offset by an increase in patronage by 26-30-year-olds? I'd like to believe it, but does that sort of thing happen? I'd be uncomfortable about this being funded from taxation. Edit: I ask because I thought I remembered...

Travelling "short" where permitted route takes you via a higher-priced destination

As far as I can tell from the official Journey Planner, the following is a valid route for Cambridge - Wymondham: Cambridge - Stowmarket - Norwich - Wymondham However, many tickets allow a break of journey; what happens if I get off at Norwich and then just abandon the journey? The...

    Early privatisation timetables

If you can guess/remember the URLs, some historic TOCs' timetables are available on archive.org, although it can be a pain to navigate the archived copies. I found at least one set of Anglian Railways timetables from 2000ish this way.

    Aylesbury

Was the ticket printed in the "traditional" APTIS-like style? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/APTIS_ticket_features Or the new style? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_National_Rail_ticket_features

Freight Train Derailment near Ely 14/08/17

http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/service_disruptions/169367.aspx says this about some morning trains starting at March, but I think the same idea applies in the evening:

    Cambridge - Haverhill?

I use the Cambridgeshire guided busway occasionally and am generally pretty impressed with it. I think frequencies like this the would be difficult to achieve with heavy rail, it's very much "turn up and go"-able (something like every eight minutes on the shared northern bit between Histon and...

Total Meltdown on GA Tonight 6/07/17

Maybe Mother Nature doesn't like modular signalling! I was looking on the weather radar and it looked so intense just in a narrow band. We got a little bit in Cambridge but not anything like that.

Total Meltdown on GA Tonight 6/07/17

Do we know specifically what signalling equipment got hit near-ish Norwich? Three places, I gather? Something between Shippea Hill and Ely, something around Eccles Road and something controlled by Trowse, I think? In the Fens (the first of those), I could imagine signal posts being quite tall...

    Cant (superelevation) at Shepreth

Thank you for providing this information! (Cant believe nobody's made the obvious pun)

    Cant (superelevation) at Shepreth

Thanks for looking though! Coming out of Royston towards Cambridge the cant ramps up pretty quickly too - seemed to go from 0 to about 100mm within about five datum plates! Can't remember exactly though.

    Cant (superelevation) at Shepreth

I've noticed when taking the stopper on the Hitchin to Cambridge line (line reference SBR) that the line seems to have significant cant (superelevation) at Shepreth. When it stops, the train is tilted noticeably - almost uncomfortably - which feels fine when you're travelling through [ because...

    March - Wisbech reopening

This article also mentions that half of a £6.4m funding request would go towards the rail study http://www.fenlandcitizen.co.uk/news/garden-town-bid-a-once-in-a-lifetime-chance-for-wisbech-says-council-leader-1-8023243 And i believe this article from yesterday is saying that the funding...

    Remaining Class 37 locomotives

The mobile app called "SpotLog" contains lists of the locomotives currently in use and who owns them, and their livery - and it seems to be kept fairly up to date from what I've seen so far.

    Cambridge North: Cambridge's new station

Thanks for the photos! They've evidently made progress on the busway extension since I last checked. Eagerly awaiting 21 May!

0016 Cambridge - Norwich 1K94, "regular" but not in the WTT

Ah, that's interesting - thank you. It doesn't seem (from a vague look) to be mentioned in any GA publicity about the engineering works that I can find, but I suppose it'll show up in the NR journey planner for people searching for "London [All stations]" - Norwich late on Saturday night. Edit...

0016 Cambridge - Norwich 1K94, "regular" but not in the WTT

I've noticed that there's sometimes(?) an early Sunday morning Cambridge - Norwich service at 0016, with headcode 1K94. It's always a STP (short-term) schedule, rather than being in the WTT. See...
