According to the OP the guard did the overwrite, and I would expect that he/she should had initialled the change ,to confirm it, much as you do with a cheque if you make an error. There would be then no issue as to the intent. Its probably something that is not in the public conscience now...

I have used the Heart of Wales circular pass in the last few years and that wont operate the barriers at Swansea . The conditions clearly state one can break the journey at any point but I have had no problem with the staff opening the gate when they look at the ticket.
