Disparity in Oyster vs Contactless inspections

The charge for Northern etc in Manchester will soon be £60. If one of your taps drops but not the other one, it's actually £60 + incomplete journey, so currently up to £64.60 but by the time it's rolled out probably more. Also non Visa / Mastercard cards are invalid. I wouldn't expect any of...

Ending short on an advance ticket?

I didn't want to muddy the waters with that option given the OP asked what they asked earlier! But yes, of the course you are quite correct, this is perfectly acceptable, as long as, when using a ticket which forbids break of journey, you actually do the double-back and don't try pretend you did...

Pros and cons of Continuous Welded Rail (CWR)

I think some of the arguments have been that a higher stress free temperature would lower the risk of buckles in summer and raise the risk of contraction fractures in winter. I'm not sure if I really buy that idea though, at least not without a thorough assessment of the cost (both of safety of...

Ending short on an advance ticket?

It is not permitted. What would be permitted would be if you, say, found a cheaper ticket to Lancaster, and then got a lift or parked there instead. Lots of people used to do that, even if they lived close to Preston station.

Was the card actually given to you by your friend, and not a stolen or found card?

"TfL Fare Evasion - Friend's Blocked Card (Used Multiple Times) & Previous Penalty"

Please could you try to write without using large language models (such as ChatGPT or Gemini) in your answers? It's not necessary to have a perfect grasp of English or perfect grammar to get help here so try not to worry about using perfect language, but replying using AI will make it harder...

"TfL Fare Evasion - Friend's Blocked Card (Used Multiple Times) & Previous Penalty"

Where did you travel from? How did you get in with a card that had been banned? And why did your "friend" offer to pay for your travel by loaning you a bank card which they knew was banned? You must realise that travelling with a bank card which is both a) not yours and b) banned is incredibly...

    Delay repay for mid-journey delay

I thought that at first as well but I didn't think that interpretation made any sense. Why wouldn't you just keep to the original train and use the remaining half an hour to buy food to take onto the train?

    Delay repay for mid-journey delay

It sounded like the OP knew they'd be unable to make their original train at all to me. I agree perhaps I misread and they could have? Is the train from Edinburgh to Aberdeen on time?

    Delay repay for mid-journey delay

How are you going to get to Aberdeen? Assuming you are not going to be doing so on that Edinburgh to Aberdeen ticket, you are entitled to the following: - a refund of the Edinburgh to Aberdeen ticket - compensation for the delay of your journey to Edinburgh If you continue to Aberdeen tomorrow...

Most ticket machines being removed from Luton Airport Parkway

Do you mean this kind of thing? It's a platform validator. This is the same thing, but on a ticket gate.

    Missold tickets for wheelchair user

Sadly you're right. If the customer books assistance on a route like that you'd hope the assisted travel team would suggest road transport for someone remaining in the wheelchair rather than risking the spaces being full. Unfortunately if the customer doesn't like road transport (say, because...

Derailment at Wickford - Friday 14th August 2026

They may be able to arrange for a deveg team to visit during unexpected access, but anything requiring specific pieces of plant, cranes, highly specialised operators, freight locos and drivers and so forth is probably not available at two days notice. The rail freight industry tends to have its...

Most ticket machines being removed from Luton Airport Parkway

By "little robots" I assume that you mean ticket gates? At ungated stations, they are called platform validators. And to answer your question, they simply do not know. However, your card is checked to ensure that it is valid and has not been added to the banned card list. Reconciliation...

    Missold tickets for wheelchair user

I guess people making journeys on long distance trains to and from London (except if they were going to Stevenage maybe!) are very likely to have paid for the Disabled Railcard and booked an Advance anyway, as that'd be cheaper. The solution to this is supposed to be that the assistance at the...

Copenhagen 'tourist tax' on non-EU card payments

It really is. Ultimately neither the vendor nor the consumer wants to be dealing with the unnecessary cost of secure cash collection into the 2030s, save a few particular cases where getting rid of it entirely would be an unreasonable hardship. Already in Belgium for example SNCB have a limited...

Copenhagen 'tourist tax' on non-EU card payments

If the fees are equalised, it'll be interesting to see what happens with those co-branded Currensea and other debit cards which award more generous point rates on non-GBP or non-European (insert woolly definition here) transactions.

    Missold tickets for wheelchair user

If a customer contacts the passenger assistance telephone line, these discounts can indeed be offered this way. Recognition may be rather poor as you mention, but it's technically possible. GWR telesales even used to be able to book Priv tickets in the days when you nobody could get them online...

Copenhagen 'tourist tax' on non-EU card payments

Do let us know how you get on. I suspect the Danish customer service assistant wasn't trying to be deliberately short with you, and it's just some cultural divide. Of course, it's a possibility. Edit: just spotted the card issuer closed your claim without raising a chargeback. Ah well. I...

TPE Travel Irregularity Notice – Expired Railcard (advice needed)
